Ratchet Rake - ever seen/used one?

With this response and having not receiving any PMs or phone calls it looks like I'm not getting a Piranha :Dto let me decide with the side by side test if they are competitors in my opinion and the strengths and weaknesses of them in comparison. I guess I'll just have to continue endorsing the one I have used and has worked great for me up to this point.:)
I really was looking forward to trying the Piranha to see if it was in the same class of construction quality, durability, ease of use, installing, removing and value for the money. Guess now I'll never know, it'll just be a story with pictures for me.:(

Hi JT,
From reading with interest, hundreds of your posts over the last couple of years, it's obvious there are a few things that you're really fond of: trading tractors, dealing with the Barlows and the Ratchet Rake. I don't think there's anything anyone could do to change your mind on any of those.:laughing:
I have to say, I appreciate your sense of loyalty.
I just wish you were a bit closer...;)
Cheers! Harry

Somerset KY to Shelby NC
I-40 W to I-640 W
5 hrs 21 mins / 313.23 miles

Now while we Yankees are impressed with those distances, I understand Texans drive that far for donuts so I guess "a bit closer" is a relative concept.

I'd say go for it. A fair product review even for the second place finisher will generate lots of interest and discussion on TBN. Assuming that each implement will be stronger than the other for some tasks, that would clearly drive some interested potential customers to both products. Of course we'd need a video to document the challenge and a fair set of tasks and measurements to show the potential range of each implement.

That's actually not a terrible idea, can't believe I didn't think of it. Just need to make sure I have the ear plugs in!

Maybe lay a piece of 2x4 or 2x6 on the bucket & hit that instead, rather than the bucket directly. Might avoid some sharp kinks/ bends in the bucket's lip from the sledge hammer's head. I dunno, never tried this. It'd be trial-&-error for me .. but should work I think.

I wound up searching and it's a pretty common problem I guess. That's a good idea, be easier on my metal.

You could also use a comealong or some other non impact device to straighten it.

Me to Harry.:laughing::thumbsup: If you change your mind or find a spare Piranha laying around in your way, don't forget me.:licking: I have video cameras for stills and action movies as well as some hillside scrub land.:) I have room in my heart for more things/people to be loyal to.:)

I have been meaning to ask if the pirnanha steel or alumimum? I am considering both, but have numerous large rocks than could easily damage aluminum teeth, thereby nullifying the intended purpose.

I've never seen or heard of any aluminum tractor implements. Pretty confident it is steel.

I've used my RR quite a bit in my land clearing operations on our Canadian property. The only issue I have with it is that the squared off bottom in the V between the teeth lets a lot of smaller brush slip through. The 1" to 2" stuff catches quite nicely but anything below 1/2" is likely to go right through.

I've thought about grinding an edge in the V but have been reluctant so far.

It's steel. Couldn't tell you how thick since it's 10:45 at night and raining and I don't want to walk across the property to measure it, but it must be at least 1/4". Very sturdy build and versatile design. I got mine a couple of weeks ago but haven't had much chance to use it with all of the rain we've had. Waiting for it to dry out enough to finish leveling the area for my garage/shop.
