72 inch Rachet Rake on sale at TSC $199

Has anyone tried it- with bucket in float position- on ice?
A few years back we 3" of solid ice for weeks. I wonder if those teeth would tear it up.

I have had a loaded bucket of snow and floated over frozen semi packed snow / gravel drive with ratchet rake and it does great for leaving enough to smooth pack (Tilted back bucket) for finish. I hope that is what you mean. This winter it just melted a couple days later.

Picked up a 6ft Ratchet Rake today. My closest TSC did not have any but they did a regional search and found one - apparently there was just one in the entire state of Wisconsin. There are still some to be found in the UP of Michigan.

The TSC I drove to had one of each of the 3 different sizes. Only the 72" model is on the closeout price. On a lark, I asked the manager if I could buy the 68" rake for the same price as the 72" since it would be a better fit for my 60" bucket. But, as I expected, the answer was no. Seems kind of strange that the bigger rake is selling for so much less than the smaller ones.

I'll be anxious to try out my new rake this spring when the snow blower comes off. Anyhoo, I had a nice drive and got to see a part of the state I had never been to before. A good day.

My driveway (NW Pa.) gets iced over every year from snow melt run off, my thoughts were for something more aggressive than my bucket tooth bar.

After seeing the post's on the Ratchet Rake on sale, it gave me the incentive to spend $200.00 and give it a try at ice control as the main purpose for it. Well I got to use it last week and it seemed impressive on breaking up the ice. OF course this was not the full winter freeze but i was pleased.

Besides breaking the ice, I was able to get into the gravel at the same time and some "Grooming".

After buying a 72" day before yesterday, I found another for a neighbor. He picked it up today and is tickled pink. Two for two.

I went to my local TSC to see if they had a 72" at the clearance price & I found all 3 models sitting on the same shelf. That's when I noticed that the 72 has the 1st & 3rd bracket in the same position as the outer brackets of the 52" model.

I have a Kubota BX24, & I was wondering if there was any reason I shouldn't cut down the 72" model to 52" & use it on my BX. The only differences I see is that the 52 has 2 brackets located just inside the outer brackets (presumably for a smaller bucket); & I would be left instead with just a single extra bracket in the center of the bucket.
Also, the 72 is made from 5/8" steel, & the others are made from 1/2" stock.

I can't see where either of those issues would be a problem, but thought I'd better run it by you guys in case I'm overlooking something

Oh good. You will love it. I have been procrastinating on a set of rear tire chains and I will probably regret it.

You'll have to weld another bottom tab to attach the strap to. You can grind it off the end one...
