loggers are coming to clear the land behind us

no sympathy huh. trust me i get it, i just don't like it.

No, you don't get it. You don't own the land and you have no business dictating what the lawful owners can do within the structure of any local zoning or other land use regulations.

My personal experience is that of living in a town increasingly populated with folks like you that wish to control all that they can see while paying taxes on what little they own. I can't wait to move out.

i am really upset because the trees are beautiful fir and cedar and they protect us from the strong north and east winds year round as well as runoff and prvide alot of privacy.
I would expect in your area, Big Brother to watch over the job closely. Yes, you may contact the owner and considerately discuss your plight - just don't be peeved if things don't go your way. I'm fairly certain you would not want them telling you what to do on your property. Good luck to you.

On the other hand, I find it reprehensive

Creekbend - I think you are being too nice.

Come to think of it my former neighbor came over three times one day while I was clearing my fence line. He wanted my trees on my property to shade his house - therefore I was not supposed to clean up my side of the fence. Kind of glad he is gone because he never did offer to pay a note on the mortgage or my tax bill.

Some people. I wanted to use another word but this is a public forum.

I can certainly understand your sadness at losing the privacy as well as the use of the property.

We wanted all that you have, so we bought it, even spent a boat load of money in reforestation on some of it, put in ponds and pay LOTS of money just to own and enjoy it.

We tried to buy the land adjacent to us so no one would build, but they wouldn't sell and a few years ago one of their relatives built a house right on our property line and have been enjoying the view and seclusion of our trees/ property on the side and behind his house.

We planted hybrid pines in one area, so they will have to come down at some point and I am sure my neighbor will bemoan the loss of "his" privacy/view too, but I sure don't see how he should have any input into how we manage our land.

We will replace them with a non hybrid pine or hardwoods, but it's going to look pretty bad for a few years.

Offer to lease part of the land from the land owners. Or purchase a section that joins u. Or have the state buy it as a park or national forest.

Other than that... It's owned by someone else and they'll do what they want. If you have issues with run off, etc u'll have to file a complaint at the court house against property owner.

Well you sure got an earful Bigballer. We all seem to have the same thoughts that while it is sad to lose a great view and neighborly asset, as land owners we, even you should respect the rights of the neighbor to do what they wish with their property as long as it is legal. I had a similar situation in that the property on the backside of my land was clear cut. Changed the view completely, but it was their right. My solution, is fence and plant privacy trees on my property. Good luck with your coming to term, but remember in a few years, new growth will change the view, wildlife will be back and your access may still be available.

Bigballer, 1st, I'm sorry you're being attacked for something you feel is wrong, how many here blowing smoke would do the same thing  ? I do agree though that if your not paying the bills then don't force yourself/beliefs on the owner.

Have you talked with the onwer to find a solution or at the very least get an understanding? I will say from experience {around here} some of these so called "loggers" will leave a HUGE mess that will look like s___ for many years, hope that's not your case. If it is logged properly then you may be surprised that it may not be as bad as you think. Maybe you could find out who will be logging and go look at some of their work?

In reguards to this matter, #1 YOU DO NOT OWN THIS LAND! I understand what you are trying to say but, rule # 1 still applies. If you are this concerned about run-off talk to the company and see if a "Buffer Strip" could be left at your boundry line.
#2, If this lot is "mature timber," this company is "Stupid" not to log-it! Theres a term, "Log-it, or loose it".
When I cut on my land i do clear cut because the timber is mature and i do not object to doing so.
I delt with a situation about 30 years ago, where a joining 5000 acres was logged next to mine woods, and don't get me wrong here cause, our motto has always been, " the only good tree is a horizonal tree" but the logger jumped the line! in fact he moved the line about 500 feet to his benefit, well it got real nasty, in fact guns were drawn, there was a huge fine on the logger, we were paid an outragous amount of money for our logs (Joke being, we were going to sell these select logs to the logger but hadn't agreed on a price and no written contact was in affect!) and a 500" "Buffer Strip" was mandated which went over like "concrete sneakers" in the pool but "sucks" to be them! I was expecting them to clear cut but only on their side! Understand the fact in some situations "Clear Cut" is the only option.
All i can say is watch your line closely! make them clean up any mess they make on your side and in my state you "cannot" cut trees on a "boundry line." Who knows maybe something like an endless supply of tops for wood will be in order. . . .John

Bigballer, they are really beating up on you, I just wonder what they would be saying if someone was doing something next to them that they didn't like. It is real easy to "talk" but when it comes to them it is different. people on TBN do not see anything wrong about the shale gas drilling or the pipe line through Nebraska. But that is because it is not in their back yard.
