So many tractors, so little time

/ So many tractors, so little time #21
Just bought 67 acres in KY for wildlife habitat. 57 is mature timber and will stay that way  Looking for a tractor, I know we need 4 wheel drive and a loader. Trying to decide on a brand and how many HP. Will be using it for some corn crops, mowing and moving dead wood.

10 acres - grass so keeping it mowed.

Have some hills, would like a fishing pond.

I'd look for something in the 35-45 hp (pto) range with 4WD, hydrostatic tranny (HST), power steering, FEL with 6-ft wide bucket with three chain hooks welded onto the top of the bucket, dual rear hydraulic remotes. There are several dozen models from various manufacturers that would fit the bill.

My everyday tractor is a 2008 Mahindra 5525 (54 hp engine, 45 hp pto, 2WD, gear tranny 8F/2R, power steering, triple rear hydraulic remotes) with the ML250 FEL (6-ft wide bucket, 2950 lb lift to 10.5 ft height at the bucket pins, 3 chain hooks, skid steer quick attach feature). Cost: $19K (new).

My 5525 doesn't have all the features I recommended for your needs, but it'll give you an idea of something that's pretty close.

Good luck.

Pretty close to what we just bought  Mahindra 6500, 4 x 4, loader and 7 foot bushhog. 800 hours and 3 years old. The original owner paid $27,000. We got it with the 7 ft bush hog for $17,000. The dealer will change all the fluids and store it for us for a little bit. Also close enough for any maintenance. Does Mahindra have a slogan?

Exactly. Our building houses 3 counties. They want to divide us and move them to counties outside our area. Most of our farmers are older, they don't need to drive further.

Wow, nice. Hope the flooding isn't hurting you. First the drought and now this. I think some of our Farm Bureau trips have been to Texas farms.

Drought was really bad but everything is green now,the rain caused some flooding but it wasnt to bad gone by morning, ponds are filling really nice, another good rain and ponds should be back to normal.I been a Farm Bureau member 17yrs now......

I was surprised Farm Bureau didn't want to insure our farm since we didn't live their full-time. Lots of changes over the years. Shame.

I have had a few claims, deer hits and hail damage on home and farm bureau has always been great never any questions and quick. I called on my home damages and someone was out next day,and actually printed out check right there. The discounts on tires and etc.,is nice too:D

Its scary to get the loan approved and then can't find insurance. I think we ended up with State Farm.

Maybe when we move there, we can change.

Looking for threads on digging fishing ponds. I know I'm rushing. Right now I want a working toilet in the cabin.

Great thread, thank you.

I pulled up the soils map online of the area. Lots of silt and loam. Thinking ahead, wondering about liner vs. bentonite clay. Will work with our conservationist for a plan.
