L4240 vs MX5100.. tough choice..

The MX5100 does use more fuel when run at full power BUT I noticed I been using it at 1/2 throttle most of the time and the fuel usage is close to my old L3700. Over the last 7 hrs I have used 10 gallons of fuel which is not bad at all. That time has been doing loader work, running a scraper blade on over 1/2 mile gravel lane, raking gravel, and a lot of lifting/moving stuff around. Hope that gives you an idea of my observed fuel usage.

so going shopping today for the tractor... anyone got a good price on a 4240 with a FEL? list on the web is 31k. I have one quote thats 28.5 but going to check out a bigger dealer in a little bit. just curious whats the best i can expect.

I think a good price would be about 10% to 12% off. It's a regional thing though and the Southeast seams to have the best prices, I've heard of people getting up to 18% off. Some areas 5% is the best you can do. I would say $28,500 is not too bad. I would try to get another $50 or so off.

Check with Barlow Tractor for about the best price I have run across. Barlows delivers all over the US and still gives about the best deal around.

well kind of funny, as I was getting the quote today, i saw the reply from crazyal on my phone. the quote I got was 800 less than that. so L4240 with L854 FEL and 72 HD round back bucket was 27.8k. I had gotten a quote of 28.5 on Friday when I went to a different dealer.

so the L4240, L854 FEL, metal roof and Land Pride RCR2672 with slip clutch protection = 31k even out the door delivered to my ranch.

so the trigger has been pulled, now just need to wait for it to come in and get delivered. ill take pics when I have something more than a cool hat and a manual.
