yep.. they do like to be worked.

Nice.. i see 5th wheel rails... menaing you can put in a 5th wheel adapter OR a gooseneck adapter.. If you go gooseneck.. i reccomend 'the goose' from reese. they are about 15$ more than some of the generic ones.. but I've had great luck with mine.. I've hauled full sized conversion vans on my gooseneck trailer ont hat gooseneck to 5th wheel rail adapter with great results and -0- problems.

Well I failed to mention the towing aids that came with the truck.
It came with a class V receiver, a Reese gooseneck adapter, Reese 5th wheel adapter and a Tekonsha P-3 Trailer Brake Controller. The truck was primarily used for towing classic cars (the seller has half a dozen) a boat and a horse trailer.

I've a cousin-in-law that lives about 2 miles away from our retirement home. He has a brand new 14K gooseneck trailer he offered for use (along with his 2yr old 100hp JD tractor w/cab) and I'm looking for a 5th wheel camper :).

That was one reason I wanted a truck that would TOW.

It also came with a Superchips 1705 (I've the Tow Safe module installed).

And on the trip back from Mississippi to Virginia I got 17.8mpg for the Virginia portion of the trip (last fill up), at 70 mph.

Is the hitch really a Class V????

This is the biggest bit of hitch miss information I see my customers tell me. I think about 75% believe they have a Class V but in reality it is not.

Where it gets confusing is the SAE rating for all hitch components is V. Hitches, draw bars, and balls fall under this. All it means if its stamped SAE V is it meets the SAE standards set forth by North America.

Most of the time what I find is 90% of the hitches many think are a Class V is really nothing more than a Class III. They see the SAE V marking and assume. There is many good websites that take you though all the classifications of hitches if you want to search out but the Class V hitches I see are 2.5" units and a few 2" units that are built twice as strong as most other 2" units but they are few and far between.

I purchased a 2 1/2 inch Reese class V hitch at an auction along with a factory class IV ford hitch. There is a big difference between the two. If only I had a truck that the Hitch would fit on.

Yep, I broke the factory hitch on my brand new, 5 month old, 04 F-250. I did have it overloaded by about 6,000# so it was clearly my fault. I replaced it with the Reese Titan Class 5 2.5" unit and there is no comparison.

When I ordered my F-350 in 06 they told me they could not get the 2.5" unit on a SRW truck, dually only. I hate duallys with a passion so I had them get it with the full tow package and do a hitch delete. I then had them order the 2.5" Ford factory hitch and install it as a dealer installed option. Its a beast, actually a little better built then the Reese and much better paint.

do you dislike drw for maneuverability or tire cost or?

I know you were asking Diamondpilot, but my feelings for dually's are pretty much the same as his. My answer would be all of the above. To me, they take up too much space, I don't love the idea of replacing 6 tires instead of 4, I don't like the way they look and they are even worse in mud or snow than a SRW diesel truck. If I was strictly using it as a tow vehicle, strictly on the road, I might consider a dually, but I just haven't had much luck with them off pavement, even with 4 wheel drive. I think if I were going to spring for a purpose built tow vehicle for hauling big loads, I'd probably look into a GMC4500 or something similar like Martian has. To me, their appearance is much improved and there's no doubt that it's a purpose built hauler. It doesn't look like the extra set of wheels is an afterthought like a dually pickup truck does for me.

Oh, and my 3 most used drive up ATM's require me to fold the mirrors in on my SRW pickup to make it through, a dually would likely not be happening.

Funny thing is I actually bought the thing for the looks and not for the towing:laughing::laughing: ...... Don't tell the boss:eek: I got it the year of the big tax breaks and I always wanted one, so it worked out. Definitely not a daily driver though, 6 years old and 6000 miles and the biggest load its pulled is a Radio Flyer (see pic). As much as I feel like a BA riding up as tall as the semis, I would never have a thought to drive it every day, that would be a real PITA. In my opinion, DRW's definitely have their place, but I wouldn't have one for every day driving.

Traction in mud and snow, looks, narrow roads, drive up windows, atm's, fitting in the garage, and the list goes on.

Each person has different needs but I hated the one I had. It was the second worst vehicle I have owned for driving in the snow and it was a 4x4. Worst was my 400 HP F-150 Lightning. The dually could not decide which rear wheels should track the front wheels.

I know you like yours and thats fine. Just not for me. F-350 SRW 4x4 diesel with the heavy GVWR package is what I like.
