Ford vs. Chevy?

I did a comparison of 1/2 ton 4x4 Expedition ELs and Suburbans at work a few years ago, and drove a number of both types.

This was for battalion chief rigs for a mid-size fire department.
We were switching from another vehicle type, and needed to carry a relatively small "fixed load" and still have room for up to four people inside during complex incidents.

We liked driving both, but the Suburban won hands down when we looked at the experience of other departments. Expeditions seemed a bit lighter-duty; the Suburban's brakes and shocks held up better, and their interiors held up better, too. Motors seemed comparable for maintenance, etc.

We ultimately chose 3/4 ton Suburbans; our fire shop folks wanted the even-heavier-duty suspension, axles and brakes. We went with the police/fire version that adds a larger alternator as well.

I'm a Ford guy at home, but I drove one of the Suburbans for several years after we chose that model, and loved it.

I've since retired, but I know that the shop folks are still very impressed with them from a maintenance and durability angle. They get pretty hard use and rack up a lot of miles each month, but seem to hold up well.

The Armada is built in Canton Mississippi,
I have always been a "made in the usa" person. I know Nissan is not an American company but all the jobs are here and more parts of the Armada are made here than a lot of GM's cars have. It's kind of like the Honda Accord having more parts made in America than any of the big three or Komatsu being the only company to build some of their excavators and dozers 100% American made.

This is how I feel also. If you put people to work that is all that matters.

Tough to choose between two great full size suv's but I stay far away from Ford's problematic 5.4l V8 and transmission. They just dont have the drivetrain reliability that GM has.

Number of parts made does not constitute which company is "more American". The price of parts is fractional compared to the price of design, R&D, engineering, marketing, etc...
"All" of Nissan's jobs are not here, they're mostly in another country. Even with foreign parts, domestic manufacturers bring a lot more money to our economy than foreign companies.

But the number of parts made does equal jobs and reinvestment at the local level. After that I don't care if the rest of the money goes to Tokyo or if its horded by some Wall Street tycoon (or the US gov and unions if we're talking about GM). Sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone. I've always enjoyed GM products but all the back door dealings they took part in a couple of years ago turned me away.

You should! That "Wall Street Tycoon", US goverment, and union spend most of that money right here in the US versus the dollars sent to Toyko...

You can't hijack anyway! Sorry guys I'm already taking a huge leap at looking at the ford. Toyota and nissan are just so far out in left field for me.

I stopped at the ford lincoln dealer today. I looked at the back seat of the crew cab f150, wow!! Way more room than my tahoe or my father 2011 chvey 2500.

Around these parts...Suburbans and Tahoes are all I see at fire and police departments...That might say something..Who knows?...There is the occasional Explorer to be fair.

Our police dept just got a fleet of F-150 Eco Boost trucks. The fire dept runs Expeditions and some SuperDutys. Heck, the detectives for both the police and fire run around in Camery Hybrids..

As for police cars the Crown Vic rules the roost but the Dodge Charger is also making a strong showing.
