Finally got home and unpacked my stickweld 250. Problem is the manual is full of holes and quite incomplete. The unit is supposedly a single and/or 3 phase capable unit but the wires in the feed cable are color coded otherwise. Three phase is red, black, blue with white common( if supplied) and green ground. This cable has red black white and green, which is single phase 240volt coding with common. It is either not three phase capable or wire color code is wrong and white is not common but is hot and the unit has no common only ground. Manual as supplied does not address and online manual for the 250 must be way out of date as it looks like it is European in color code and is not useful. Do not want to burn unit up by treating white as hot but the test they did prior to shipping they stripped black white green and not the red making me think they did not use the red wire thus it maybe the third phase which was not tested or something else. Anyway I am not willing to plug it in until I get verification. Tried to call Simon and went to voicemail. Any suggestions based on firsthand knowledge as an opinion might fry the unit. Deereman you just got one how did you wire the plug?

hi Trovenn Forestry,

your assumption is correct,
RED = 3rd leg for 3 phase
Green = Ground / Neutral (Ground / Neutral are bonded at breaker panel usually)
White = Hot
Black = Hot

In this video Kevin covers wiring at the beginning.

I to found the manual needing improvement. Forcing us to search other sources to obtain information needed.

The Stickweld 140 manual helps a little. StickWeld_140_Manual

Also a suggestion, make sure the Power Wiring is a large enough gauge (from breaker to machine), 10 gauge minimum for very short runs. I convinced myself that most all issues I read about home owner welders is that the wiring or extension cord is to small. Not enough copper to carry the current and putting stress on the machine causing failure. Lots of electrical equipment is burnt out because of it. (ex: a friend sold new refrigerators, he would go to customer for replacement and almost always found the common lamp extension cord for power. New fridge with properly sized cord = problem solved)

Good Luck
