...Well, plenty of people smoke cigarettes for decades - Do you think that's OK?
Of course it's OK...I've been smoking for 40 some years...

I'm sure we do need this natural gas, but I don't believe the methods used to get it are harmless.

I think the methods have potential for harm...but can be lessened as long as the safety measures are in place and strictly conformed too. However, profits can get in the way of safety, sometimes, can't they?
I'd like to see the penalty for not following those safety procedures be something like the CEO and Boards of Directors of offending companies be required to drink nothing but water from the affected well or wells for a period of 5 years.
Be a real drag if it poisoned them...but no less a drag if that well water sickened the owners of the well(s).

I think that would be an incentive to ensure safety regulations are adhered to...

Aw Roy ... tisk-tisk  Stinky, expensive, likely to kill you torturously (eventually), & you're giving our stupid politicians a bunch of extra tax money to waste ... What the heck is it gonna take to convince you to drop that habit?!? :confused3: It ain't too late.

Hey I like that penalty plan!

A few points to think about:
New York wanted to lift the ban on fracking everywhere but in the water shed for New York City and Syracuse. If this process is so safe why this concern and why are the people in the city more important then those in the country. Could the reason be VOTES?
Another fact that the company people keep shouting "Fracking has NEVER been linked to any ground water pollution" Feds Link Water Contamination to Fracking for the First Time - ProPublica
Another lie down the drain.
I have been shouted down and accused of being a liar and even driving too fast even tho after 44 years of driving I have never had a speeding ticket. Because I am not college educated some here made jokes about my credibility and said how safe and wonderful the fracking is. But I have found some support and this person is college educated.Dr. Robert (Bob) Myers' Website
I also found that the Governor of PA has limited the powers of the inspectors that they cannot stop work for violations without approval from Harrisburg. Could this be the reason that the Gas industry donated to the governors election fund?
I have also been told that I paint with a broad brush and that most of the drillers and gas workers are fine people. That could be true and I have met some pickups that did slow down and get over while passing on the narrow dirt roads. I can only make my opinion on what I have seen and heard from people I know and trust. The driving habits of most of the gas trucks may be fine on straight flat roads but when coming around a blind corner and having 80,000 plus pounds of truck completely on my side of the road and after I go to the ditch they keep right on going not even a brake light. Now I have been told by some drilling experts to get the trucks number. That could be difficult from the ditch and shaking from nearly being killed. This happened to me and my neighbor had it a bit worse he did not have a ditch and had to go into the guard rail again no stopping by the truck.
I will not change my opinion of the gas industry until they show me that they are a good bunch of people to have as neighbors.

If I were in an area where such things were happening, I would get a dash camera such as: HD 1080p Dual Lens IR Car Dashboard Dash Camera Cam Accident DVR,Rotable Monitor | eBay or Wide 150 degree HD 720P IR Night Vision Car Dash Cam Video Camera Recorder DVR | eBay so that it would capture the event as it happened and give me something to show to the cops, the company and (if needed) my insurance company. $60-$80 for the peace of mind of knowing that whatever happens will be on tape would be well worth it IMO.

Out of curiosity, what industry are you in?

a little bit more reading about the Gas company tactics, this sounds like some of the comments here. But actual actions speak louder then words

Sorry, but anyone who trusts someone else's contract without having their own lawyer look it over is a fool (at best).

Ok, from what I hear on the news the largest export from this country last quarter was fuel, crude, diesel, or gasoline. Thats means we were producing much more than we use so we sell it to other countries. Now just yesterday on the news I hear this expert say that we are not able to fill our reserves and that The price of gasoline and diesel were headed up, gas to as much as $4.50 a gallon by spring. Then he says part of the cause is because 1 or more refinerys had shut down and were for sale. So when they blame the price of oil on a shortage here in this country that is a huge lie. Just shows you its all about the profits and you can't believe anyone anymore when it comes to oil. When you pull up to a pump and you see the price, thats what to believe. :confused2:

That's right, as jobs and industry go away in the USA we will not even use the oil and gas we produce. It will be sold outside the country where people who work can afford it, get it. The demand here is going away as America declines right before your eyes. Those countries who are producing and using oil and gas to fuel their economies will use our oil and gas. You don't expect companies to sell it to you cheap just because you live here did you? All that hydrofracing is happening on private lands they have to right to sell to whom ever they want.

Another fact that the company people keep shouting "Fracking has NEVER been linked to any ground water pollution" Feds Link Water Contamination to Fracking for the First Time - ProPublica...

The situation in the report is different than in other places where fracking is taking place. The wells in the report are much shallower than in other places. As mentioned in the report the sampling was not repeatable and not consistent. Some of the chemicals mentioned are in gasoline. Did that come from fracking or a leaky tank somewhere? One of the other chemicals is commonly used as a paint solvent. Could that have come from a homeowner or local business just dumping?

The EPA report is far from conclusive. Check out the language they used...

I have also heard of propylene glycol being used in fracking. Propylene glycol is used in all sorts of products including tooth paste and the blackberry extract I just bought.

The water in our well turns brown from time to time. There is no drilling anywhere near us. Best we can tell it is caused by rain and/or lack of rain.

I think the drill companies should have to report to the EPA at state and local level what chemicals they are using to make it easier to figure out where the chemical came from. If their well operation caused ground water pollution the state should nail their fanny but it has to be proven.

There are water quality issues in my county none of which has anything to do with the oil business. If there was fracking going on here, people would claim that the drilling did the damage if it would get them a new well or hooked up to the county water supply.

Raleigh had some homes with wells that were contaminated years ago from leaky fuel tanks at a gas station. There are plenty of ways to mess up a well besides fracking.

Later,
Dan
