I hooked white up to one prong, black to the other, green to ground. That is what the diagram on the plug said to do, and it works perfectly. Just snip the red off, and forget about it.

A few questions that will most commonly be asked about the StickWeld 250.

How do I properly wire the plug?
How is the 6010 Port used?
What is "Arc Force" and how / when to use it?
What is "Surge Current" and how / when to use it?

I will reemphasize the importance of properly sized Home and Extension Cord wiring.
30 Amp circuit = about 150 amps welding maximum
50 Amp circuit = enough for the Full Welding Amperage range. (20-250 amps)

I read a thread on another site where an individual had multiple problems with a Longevity unit (don't know which one) and it ended up with he was feeding it 250 volts. Unit is spec'ed for 220 (+/- 10%) (198-242v). Before I ordered, I talked to Simon about the fact that the US power grid is closer to 240 volts than 220 volts and from his response I understood him to say that they had put a limiter on the units now to protect them and that there should not be a problem. As I have unpacked my unit and put in the 50 amp circuit I noticed as I was checking it that my power company has a very stable 246 volts on the supply line a small amount above the upper limit of the %. Talked to John in tech support this PM and he was not real helpful in clearing up the issue as he did not even know what voltage they have from the California utility but kept saying the unit is a 220 volt unit clearly indicated on the web site.

I would not even bat an eye at this except for the other posting about 250 volts hurting this other Longevity unit.

For those of you with Longevity units what voltage are you getting out of your utility companies and have you had any problems? I have left two messages and have not heard back from Simon just from John which I already described.

Just thought if I used an underrated 10 gauge extension cord of 50 feet or so I bet I could get enough voltage drop that would remove the voltage issue

Well in my limited use, it has had no issues. We always call the power we have here 110 and 220, but I will use the voltage tester to see what it really is.

Hi There,

We have a limited on the models to prevent from over voltage current now. Although, we are working on auto voltage regulation, which will allow you to hook up the unit from 110v to 460v, the limiter is the safest solution to keep your unit safe.

John works only 3 days a week at night and I was out of town from Thursday to Monday night. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me in the office today!

30 Amp circuit = about 150 amps welding maximum
50 Amp circuit = enough for the Full Welding Amperage range. (20-250 amps)

Wiring the plug can be seen in the manual or our online videos:

Green Ground, Black and White are Hot, RED is for 3Phase only. Leave it off on 1ph.

6010 Port is used when welding a cellulose 6010 electrode. Hook up the stinger there.

With Arc Force, you are able to adjust the inductance of the arc for either a crisp arc or soft arc with a fluid puddle. This will allow for greater control of your welding parameters. You will use this based on the job requirement and your requirement of the type of arc you wish to lay over. You can see some of our videos explaining this on the other models that also have Arc Force on our youtube welding channel.

Surge Current is used when welding a 6010 rod to create a larger start up Inrush Surge to push the inverter machine to penetrate the weld. You would use this when welding thick 6010 rods.

I guess my question should have been, "Is the 6010 port Negative or is it Positive Polarity?".

This would better explain it's use for Straight or Reverse Polarity welding with the E6010.

You would connect the ground to the 6010 and the stinger to positive. DC is reverse polarity for a 6010 rod. Hope that answers it.

Check out this amazing project one of our welding forum members made for his grandchild. Amazing how much you could do with a few tools and supplies. And a load of creativity.
