John Deere 317 project!

Thanks!! I really have nothing else to do afterschool, so any freetime i have goes into this. Also, the two front holes the seat springs mount to, are cracked. I wont bother with them, for what im going to do with it when ts done. Hahaha :) Hopefully, I'll be running the sander on those from 3-5 tomorrow night, or all this week. Yay!! :/

How are you with a welder? A few shots with a wire feed on the underside of the cracked seat holes may prevent them from getting any worse.

Well, i havent really tried welding yet...... I'll ask my dad what i should do about them, I'm not overly concerned with the cracks.....

Admittedly the cracks in the seat pan are not the biggest concern. However, they won't get any easier to fix than right now. Cracks do tend to get bigger. You may consider simply drilling a small hole at the end of the crack just to keep them from getting any bigger. A few seconds with a hand drill now may save you a lot of time later.

Okay, thanks!! I got them sanded down some more today, and took the left shroud off the motor, that was pretty difficult all because of 1 bolt.... Even did a bit of decal removing with the dremel!

Good news!! Got the fuel line hooked to the tank, and got a coil coming either tomorrow or saturday!!!

   / John Deere 317 project! #27
That coil seems to be very elusive. I've had to wince every time you run into another obstacle with getting the coil.

Good luck.

Okay, now the new coil did the same thing as the last one, and he just realized it has points. He now thinks its the condenser, glad I wasted two weeks.... Lost the coil nut way down in there..... Sorry about the picture quality.

Lessons learned by doing are often the lessons learned best. It sounds like you are learning a lot in this process.

You're lucky to have a dad who can and will help you out. Don't take the time you spend with him for granted.

Got more of the fenders sanded today, and also went to the dealer this afternoon and got a packet on the whole ignition deal. He also told me what to do to the points and let me borrow an offset screwdriver!!! We think it is the condenser now, so tomorrow I'll do some more looking!!

Great news. I love the feeling of seeing an engine run when I've been working on it for a while.

Well today i got the front tires on, and drove it!! The throttle doesnt stay, and i actually lost a dust cap and the tire didnt fall off!! I got tge caps tightened, and ended up hitting one of our shop doors(4000$).. Only put a few creases in it, but i was mad at my self, and the trans lever is a little worn. I also changed the oil, it runs great!!!
