how many of you learned to drive on a tractor?

I was 11 years old when Dad bought a 1940 John Deere L and I started driving it, but I had already been driving his oldest sister's 1947 Ford coupe for quite some time.:laughing:

My father just sold an"L". nice little tractor but at 77 it was a little hard for him to get on and off.

I started out at 6 going on 7 with a MF35. Dad rode with me the first 3 trips hauling hay rakes back and forth from field to the barn then turned me loose on my own. This was my uncle's tractor so Dad bought me a used CA Allis with 2 row cultivator, 8' disc, & and a drag the next year and assigned me 4 acres to get ready for corn planting and take care of it all summer.

I was 6 years old when I first drove my Dad's 1958 861 Ford. We were hand picking corn, pulling a trailer and loading the corn in it. Since I was not much help picking my Dad showed me how to start and move the tractor forward when he told me to. He gave me that tractor about 5 years ago. I have been driving it for over 41 years now.

Had to stand on the clutch peddle and pull up on the steering wheel to get it to stop.

I was 8 or 9 and the tractor was a Farmall BN and had to do the same thing. I was driver of the hay wagons as My Dad and cousins loaded the wagon. By the time I was 11 I was doing the mowing with a converted horse drawn sizkle bar mower. My cousin taught me to make nice square corners never could do that with any tractor mounted mower. That little tractor could do about any thing except pull the combine or bailer. My cousin and I did all that was needed on a 200 acre dairy farm with it and a MH senior.

Not me, we didn't have a tractor on the farm Daddy bought. I was pretty much a city kid till I was 10, so my first driving experience came in the form of Go-Karts and mini-bikes. I got ahold of two damaged Hodaka Wombat motors and mounted them (with gearboxes) on a go-kart frame. Durn thing was so fast it was dangerous.
I didn't get to ride on a tractor till I almost 20. Been hooked every since!
