2005 Dodge Ram 2500 electric brake harness

When I put a controller in my 2007, I was able to get a harness that allowed me just to plug it in. It came all prewired, no thinking on my part.

on my 98 dodge ram.. I got a 'hoppy' pigtail that plugged in under the dash and went to the common 4 wire flat that alot of controllers take. worked straight up with my drawtight controller and a hoppy from tsc, and a unit that looks like a cheap hoppy from either walmart or autozone..

same deal onmy 04 ford f250 and my 99 ford 350

5$ walmart pigtail adapter to common 4 wire flat connector under the dash.. snap in, plug in other end.. zip tie wires up nead.. add 2 screws to hold controller to plastic cowling.. then go haul a trailer..

oh yeah.. same deal on my 00 yukon.. except it's 7 pin adapter i used had to have brake power and power swapped in the adapter... ( GO GM! ) :)

You can buy a cheap 12v test light & in about 10 min you will know what each color wire powers

1 will be 12v to controller.
1 will be ground.
1 will be brake light
1 will be trailer brakes

The plug on the truck is a male

the pigtale is female

Well, you found the right plug. I see why you referred to it as female but for future reference, it goes by the actual connector not the plug.
As far as your wiring, it should be like this:
Truck -- Pigtail
Black -- White( ground)
White -- Red(Brakelight)
Green -- Blue(Trailer Brakes)
Orange/Red -- Black(12 volt)

There was no doubt in my mind that I had the right connector under the dash. But I stand corrected about male and female. I looked it up and you are correct. The truck end of the connection is the male. It is dependent upon what is inside of the connector itself and not the gender of the connector body.

I think I have finally made this thread into a "dead horse". I see the pictures you posted and you see the pictures that I posted. There is obviously a difference.

Again, thanks to all who have posted and I hope I haven't offended anyone with my "uninitiated" (as wikipedia calls me) lack of knowledge.

YOU did not offend anyone. Just glad you got it figured out. Like me and others state you can find out a lot with just a test light. Get yourself a 12 volt test light and a cheap Multi-Meter and you will be a electrical expert.:D
