I've raised my children here and am now raising some grandchildren and still haven't finished digging out all of my basement that I plan to :confused2: but now I do have compact tractor with FEL and hoe to do it. Have a 4'x8'x6" piece of Styrofoam covering opening to get in (ground level), maybe this summer  :D

When you think about it he's not working any slower than our wonderful Gov't employees when they build roads in our area!

Oh and where is his little " Days worked with an accident sign"

That reminds me of the time when I was 13 and dug a pond out by hand with a shovel and buckets in the hot summer heat in Arkansas. I mentioned it somewhere else on this forum. I think the dimensions of the pond were 5ft wide by 8 ft long. Started at 3ft deep and went down to 6 ft deep.

Now I could be off on those dimensions from what I posted because I'm not remembering exactly and would have to find the original post.

I did this all within I think about 2 weeks while my parents were gone to Kansas. When they got back I got yelled at by my dad. xd

Later he thought it was funny. I wish I would've took a picture of it before we filled it in. lol

Here is a pic of me when I was 13. mom took it. I was walking out the door and didn't know she was snapping photos. lol Took me by surprise.

I sure wish I was that young again. These days I don't have the kind of energy to dig those holes out by hand. I'm 23 now will be 24 March 8th.

Chad

Ha! Double that age, then talk about not having any energy. Some of us would love to be 23 again.

We (RC'ers) tend think it's a little nutty to drive a model train around the same loop of track for hours, but the model train guys don't seem to catch the same kind of attitude from those not in it as we do for "playing with little vehicles"........

I don't think thats it HMD. I think everyone here thinks those machines are cool. And it would be fun to be diggin in the dirt with them. Personally I'm a bit jealous!

But 15 YEARS! Even considering it as a part-time hobby, that seems incredible. That takes enormous effort and dedication. I would have played for a few hours, got bored, and picked up a shovel and been done in three weekends.

I think this is one of those projects that does'nt "need" to be accomplished as much as it justifies the means. He is probably relaxed with a hobby that actually requires thought and patience:thumbsup:
I was fascinated watching the videos, the only human interference is in changing the batteries. Hope you keep it up and keep us posted, in the next few years:laughing:

Thinking about this some more...especially what DoeLake said...Maybe the guy is living out a wish. I have been thinking that after I retire from what I am doing now maybe a heavy equipment operator would be a fun gig for a retiree that likes heavy equipment. Even now, I have to stop what I am doing to watch stuff at work, and I am not a kid anymore. I think I need to buy another attachment for my tractor now...Maybe a dump truck next?

Here's a fun site on utube I check into occasionally. He has hundreds of videos...here's a sample...See what you are missing?

Sorry if I sounded bitter -- knowing the caliber of the crowd here, I meant in it mostly in jest.:D

I have never seen anything like that JJ! That's wild! I would be a bit afraid to be standing on the sidelines in case that thing got out of control. One slip on the joystick.

Taking things a bit further...how about the remote control vehicles the police use for bombs, and even the drones the military uses. Same kind of thing on a different scale.
