Oh well, Homeland Security thought the Sig P-229 was so crappy they bought thousands of them. Oh to have that kind of cash for gun shopping. I would have to buy Fort Knox let alone a new Gun safe.
One bad thing about Sigs, Just like Deere there overpriced....

I have a few Sigs, all older. Got a P220, P226 in 9mm, P226 in .40, P228, P6 and a P230. The newest one is probably bought in 95. All are black, 2 came with night sights which are now dead. Never a bit of trouble from any of them.

Only complaints I ever had were the sights. Most all the older guns had a 2 dot system witch I never cared for and the fact they require a trip back to Sig (or a good smith) to change them out. All are great shooters and dead reliable. They sit in the safe now and I carry Glocks 90% of the time and sometimes a PPS when I need deep concealment.

, but haven't seen too many gun shops that let one take down a semi-auto....

I have no problem whatsoever asking that a gun be broke down before I purchase it... have yet to be turned down. I realize that will be a case by case basis dependent solely upon the seller at hand... and thus may not be allowed. ( in which case.. they could keep the gun too.. :) )

, Apparently, I struck a nerve when posting that info about Sig frames cracking. That wasn't my intent at all, gents...

none struck with me.

I merely hadn't heard of the issue.. and after research.. it seems to be a bit of a non issue.. an old non issue at that.

ever major player, at some point has had a firearms recall.. or let a damaged model get out.. or had problems with somethig or another. locking lugs.. etc.. etc.. that required a redesign.

if I buy a gun.. that I know had had reported problems at an extent of being past it's service life.. I take that into consideration. I've bought plenty of rifles with known weak locking lugs, if abused or old.., IE.. gunsmith it.. or check before fireing.. .especially headspace.

just part and parcel with the hobby IMHO

look at some players.. like high point, pheonix, raven, bryco/jennings..e tc.. etc

lotsa history there.. :)

heck.. one of my spendiest hand cannons. the automag... look at their early issues.. :)

just go in with eyese open.. if you see something squirly.. don't buy it.

if not allowed to inspect it.. IMHO.. don't buy it if you think it could be damaged.. or is a model with 'history'

that's all I was sayin.. nothing more.. nothing less.

i will say this.. for the new guns I've owned and carried .. looking at function, fit and finish.. the sig has been the best for me.. with keltec second...right along with tarus..

There's a lot of folks looking down on Taurus guns. Never had one of their semi-autos, but I've had several (probably 10 or so) of their revolvers...still own three of them, in fact, and carry two (not at the same time) of them.
Good guns, especially the Model 85's and their descendants.

i have a t85. the grips ( original rosewood ) are a bit small.. but.. i thought they were small 18 ys ago when i didn't pistol shoot much.. not that I pistol shoot alot.. and use hand cannon.. my hands are quite a bit more akin to holding onto guns.. and I don't find the oem grips an issue.

love the gun.. have a bobbed hammer modle.. have a smith with pachmyre os grips in 38spl as well.. also with bobbed hammer. it's heavy like a brick compaired to the t85.. got the smith for free from my FIL.. so can't complain :)

have a circuit judge from Taurus ( rossi ).. neat carbine...

I bought the 85's for carry and, other then the first one, all had rubber grips (which I prefer).
You're right about the grips being small...the trade off for easy concealment.
My other Taurus is a Model 627 Tracker .357 in stainless. Very nice revolver. I'd carry this, but never found a holster I liked.

Note to extend the war, but why with all those sigs do you prefer a Glock now??

I think I started the Sig thing by stating I'm seriously considering buying one, and I still am, just not sure which model.

Been reading up alot on them and have come across some heated debates of this brand vs that brand. Glock and Sig seem to have the most steadfast followers that often will not compromise. so when someone owns both, they're opinion should be impartial, more credible.

The reason I don't use my Sigs much anymore is I carry every day. The Glocks are lighter, much less suseptable to rust and corrision and have a higher mag capacity than do the Sigs. The sight options on the glocks are vast. I like the Ameriglo Operators in the yellow/green configuration and I can install them myself. Plus, I can shoot my Glocks a bit better using instinctive aiming.

Still love to shoot the Sigs, just don't as much since it makes more sense to practice with your carry piece.

I have both Sig and Glock, and have had no trouble with either. And I have 1911 custom guns. I have seen more broken 1911's than any other type. BUT. in the sport I played in the 1911 was the prevelant gun. I have seen slide cracks and frame cracks.. But mostly in 38 super and other hotroded calibers like major 9, especially in the old days when major was 175 power factor not 165 like today. I have seen the blown up 40 cal Glock thing too that was all the rage about 10 years ago. but they were rare, and I never was convinced it could not have been an overcharge. I am just not sure. I do know that Glock's have a large unsupported area of the chamber in their feed-ramp design. and do bulge cases more than other guns. Part of this is by design for reliability. When I was heavy into reloading 40 Cal from range pickups. I could always tell a Glock fired case by its bulged web and of course the primer strike. We all got together and bought a special case swagging machine that rolled the case between two hardened steel dies to remove the bulge. But overall Sig's work, Glock's work, Beretta's work and 1911's just go on and on.:)
