Just in my recent research in the last day or so, I did hear about frame failures during the testing for the military's replacement sidearm back in 1980's. Just reading more right now, they are taking a bit of a hit to their rep. some government agencies are cancelling contracts etc

Supposedly that was one reason for eliminating Sig back then, they said the failures only occurred outside of the required life cycle standard of the test, but that it did happen somewhere around 30,000 rounds maybe ?

Actually all the entrants failed the first 2 rounds of JSSAP testing, they had to lower the standard twice. Sig did pass the final standard but Beretta was chosen, probably because it had be in the running for the full term of the test where Sig came in near the end.

I'll tell you one thing they (Sig) have the ergonomics down pat, pick one up and they feel so nice. Though the slide/ barrel do seem high compared to other pistols, especially with the beaver-tail on the 226 scorpion I looked at.

They said the same thing about the Beretta's frame cracking during extended use as well back then. Take it with a grain of salt.

I've had some minor issues with some Sig rifles, but cracking frames on semi autos aren't one of them.

But I did talk to a buddy who knew a guy in the Austrian Army, and he told me the frame on his Glock was cracking;)

Please don't take my comments on Sig as bad mouthing. Any gun runs the chances of having issues. More models and styles you have out, the more you increase the odd's IMO of having some issues. All that said, I prefer Sig over Glock, but that is a personal preference alone, nothing more.

There's a lot of folks looking down on Taurus guns. Never had one of their semi-autos, but I've had several (probably 10 or so) of their revolvers...still own three of them, in fact, and carry two (not at the same time) of them.
Good guns, especially the Model 85's and their descendants.

Roy, I have a Taurus 85 that I carry every day. I bought it when I was making Bank Deposits all the time. You can put it in your pocket and forget that it's there. Not as accurate as I would like but it serves it's purpose.

Just to stir the pot a little... I challenge all of you Glock lovers to handle and shoot Springfield's XDM's. Granted the Glock is time tested, and very dependable, but I believe the XDM to be every bit as good, and it just feels and shoots better for me. I also understand that "feel' is different from person to person.

You just made a point on marketing and brand name recognition.

The XDM isn't even made by Springfield, let alone in America, it's made in Croatia.

AND before Springfield sold it, the SAME gun was known as the HS200.

However, take a company like Springfield, throw their name on it, spend gobs and gobs of money on advertising, and see what happens.

One thing I'm certain of. The amount of money spent on advertising by a gun manufacturer is directly related to it's review. Ever notice a crappy gun review in a gun magazine? You'd be amazed at the freebies those gun writes get. I do love it when I see a Sig rifle dressed up with what looks to be an American soldier. Not sure when the U.S military picked up Sig rifles LOL. Then again, sometimes so much politics and behind the scenes maneuvering is made by manufacturers to get a military contract, you may never have a clue as to "what the real reason is" why the military picked up a product. Does mean big business in the civilian world I'm sure.

Likewise, nothing wrong with Taurus, BUT they use to have some quality control issues. Seems from my recollection that some of their issues went by the wayside when they bought out the Beretta facility in their country.

Glock and Sig seem to have the most steadfast followers that often will not compromise. so when someone owns both, they're opinion should be impartial, more credible.

yep.. glock people seem to really be stuck on glocks.

I don't own one.. or plan on owning one. I have fired a buddies plenty.

to me.. they are blocky, and not un-expensive. I didn't like the trigger safety, or the backstrap where your thumb can sometimes get too close to the rear slide on some models.

If I wanted a blocky looking gun, for 1/4 or less of the money I could buy a highpoint :)

( now that should fan the flames.. )

Not a Glock guy, but I don't get when people say that a $400-$600 handgun is expensive? Compared to any other quality handgun, it's a bargain if you can learn to like it.

i'm amazed at the amount of people I know that have a t85 must be a darn popular gun. as i said earlier.. mines still got the small grips on it.. and as RJ said.. it DOES make it easilly concealable for sure..

good gun.. tight action.. a snub.. but then.. at 4'-6' away.. accuracy is a point and click thing. :)

Those 85's were a relatively low cost alternative to the Colt and S&W snubbies and were very popular with those folks who want a gun, but weren't "gunnies" or willing to pay the higher prices.

i honestly like my t85 better than that smith snubby, both with bobbed hammer. t85 is lighter easier to carry.
