Buying American

Just saw the article about CAT building a new plant in the US.

What is it about Georgia? Great business incentives? Cheap land? Tax breaks?

CAT is building their new plant there, and Kubota is expanding there.....several other equipment related business reside there as well.

Its a RTW state like us now in Indiana. Ohio tried to become one and it was defeated.

RTW, or right to work is a major incentive for business to build or expand.

You cant tell by the brand where something is made for sure. THe last two vehicles I bought were GM vehicles. I bought one in Canada that turned out to be made in the USA while my Chevrolet Silverado Z71 bought in Houston Tx. was made in Canada according to the stickers. I have no problem buying Canadian as they really are part of North America. Mexico, I have mixed feelings over as I dont particularly like the fact that companies are moving their businesses to Mexico for the cheap labor, but if it keeps the Mexicans in Mexico then I prefer that to Bangladesh, Indonesia, China etc..

versus

^^^ You should work on getting your story straight.

Actual verifiable fleet reliability statistics show otherwise.

The Chrysler T&C has been manufactured in Canada and in the USA. Are you sure your "several" were all "American made"?

Chevy and GMC trucks have been manufactured in Canada, Mexico, and in the USA. Are you sure your "several" were all "American made"?

I got my story straight. I would never buy a foreign vehicle but if you want to I will defend your right till the end!

How about North American made!

Like I said I am a proud American and I choose to support my fellow American workers and be part of the solution not part of the problem!

Also as I have said before it's probably impossible to find an electronic item around your or my house made in America. Be it a tv or computer or whatever. So lets remove that from the discussion.

**** even the Chinese want a Buick!! What's amazing is Americans choose to buy a Honda.:confused::confused:

I just read a story about Buick while back. GM wanted to ax the brand but Chinese protested. Buick was the favorite car of the emperor. Buick is quite popular car in China.

And David Hasselhoff is a popular singer in Germany.

Therefore, it must be a good product.

The metric system failed in this country because people didn't like the metric system of measuring temperature. 0 being freezing was fine but 100 being boiling wasn't enough of a difference. People in the US understand that 75 is comfortable and 85 is starting to get hot. They don't understand that 24 is comfortable but 29 is not.

I never understood why someone would rather buy a vehicle built in Mexico with the profits going to a US based company with parts that come from all over the world but will not buy one assembled by US workers built with parts sourced from US companies but the profits set to a different country. But if that's what you feel is right then I'll support your choice to do so.

Are you an American? Do you not like your country? Are you not proud of the things we produce? Just wondering!

So far the three Buicks we ever owned were the most reliable and cheapest cars to maintain. Try to change brake disks on import. It will cost you. We live on a gravel road so the disks have to be changed at some high miles. Cost if I remember it right was about $180 for all four plus about two hours of DIY.
I think the discs and the shocks were the most expensive parts we put in the car in about 20 years we owned it. I don't think we spent 1000 for all repairs. That is pretty good for 20 years and 247k miles.
The second Buick still had original disks and shocks when we gave it away.
I commissioned several large air compressors at the Buick plant many years ago. It was the cleanest assembly plant I have ever went to. I liked how they were made so we bought several of them.

Sorry to pop everyone's bubble (no pun intended) but it isn't what we will buy but what the rest of the world will buy and from whom. We cannot exist as an economic power by producing stuff for our own self consumption. We need to produce products that the rest of the world wants, just like we do with certain ag food products. The consumers of the world will not be in the US. The rest of the world needs to pay our wages now through purchases of products made in the USA. Too bad, that means that they will also dictate somewhat how much we get paid.
