You are getting too much fuel for the amount of air you're getting. Greyish white smoke that lingers in the air is unburned fuel. White smoke that dissipates quickly indicates coolant or moisture in the combustion chamber. Check your air cleaner for restriction. Possibly you have a dribbling injector(s) that would cause over fueling. Check your fuel for water with water finding paste. How long have you had this symptom?

bought machine last fall had a bad cylinder on the boom. Had trouble getting it started then. It had a hydraulic leak so we only ran it long enough to load on trailer. It ran into my shop. Several days later got leak repaired. It ran that day. Waited all winter on hydraulic cylinder. Got that put on Sunday had to bleed air from fuel filters. Started right up. Yesterday would not start. Had to bleed filters again but could not get it to go. I knew this machine a couple of years before I bought it.

If it is necessary to constantly bleed the filters then you have an air leak between the fuel tank and the lift pump. Have you tried fresh fuel? Have you tried starting it without the air cleaner element in place?

It started. Can you flood a diesel engine? I am going to replace the fuel lines and the air filter. Thank You for the help.

Technically no, because there are no spark plugs, but you can get enough fuel into the combustion chamber to cause a hydraulic lock - which isn't good at all.
