Oil & Fuel 1st Oil Change on BX2660

   / 1st Oil Change on BX2660 #21
Lumberdink...thanks for bringing up this discussion. Being a relatively new BX2660 owner, I got my manual for review. The maintenance interval does recommend an oil filter change at 50 hrs. It also says that a 15W-40 or 10W-30 oil will cover all temperature ranges. Then it says that "the CJ-4 engine oil is intended for DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) type engines, and cannot be used on this tractor". The Kubota branded oil that I have used in the three oil changes thus far is labeled as CI-4 Plus. I use the Low-Sulfur fuel. So I'm good.

But there is another note that talks about EGR type engines as well as DPF engines. What type engine is the BX2660 in this regard? Page 2 of the manual says it is a "Indirect injection, vertical, water-cooled, 4-cycle diesel". I haven't found a mention of whether it is a EGR or DPF type. Anybody that isn't already bored with this thread can reply.

The manuals for my Kubotas were out of step regarding oil the day I brought them home.

The manual will continue to grow out of date as new oil standards are set. Kubota was unsure at first, it seems, about the newer oils and their newest EPA engines. I believe all those concerns have long ago been addressed. Rotella T-6 is used by thousands of us here on TBN in our new Kubota tractors.

Our 2000 model car manual "demands" the use of oil, with ratings, no longer in existence. This is the nature of printed manuals. Shrug.

Yeah, seems odd that my tractor is just a few months old but my manual is 5 or 6 years old. I'm guessing these tractors are pretty low tech as far as the emissions stuff goes. Good to hear others are running Rotella T. I still need to pick up a quart to top off after the change. Next up is the hydraulic fluid filter change.
I emailed Kubota about the Rotella yesterday and I will post their reply, if received.

Lot's of luck on a response from Kubota; every time I ask a question they come back "See your Dealer".

On this thread; I buy all my fluids from NAPA as I get their fleet price as my military discount, that is half what the Kubota dealer charges for the K branded stuff. I use the NAPA hydraulic fluid at K spec and DELO 400 15-40 oil. I have used DELO 400 for 50 years in both gas and diesel engines. The diesels have been from large stationary engines now down to my BX25. I originally got on to it when overhauling a D-8 Cat engine that failed early. An old Cat tech said the failure was caused by using cheap oil and got us onto DELO, never a problem with it.

The Owner's manual that came with my 2008 model is dated 2008. I would suppose that the date on the manual indicates that it was current at the time of manufacture of the 2008 model. But no one has indicated the status of whether the engine is a EGR or DPF type engine. I'm just curious.

I did get a reply back from Kubota:

Thank you for your email. As long as Rotella T6 5w-40 Synthetic oil meets
or exceeds the minimum API Service Classification CF or better your machine
will accept it. Note, I have attached the page of the B2660 Operators
Manual which discusses this as well as recommended oil types. Please
contact the Northern Division Service Department with additional questions.

Just joined today and responding to this thread as it's about the B2660 gearbox and I think that's where my problem is. We had 30 inches of snow in RI last week. Not heavy snow but I kept breaking the shear pin (1/4-20 x1-1/4) between the gearbox and the impeller. Went thru about 6 of them before I finally just dropped the blower and picked up the front loader to finish clearing before I did some real damage to the snow blower. I'm thinking the augers are jamming and the impeller continues to turn snapping the pin.....so the gearbox? The fan side just doesn't seem to make much sense. Has anybody experienced a lot of impeller shearing pins breaking. Looking for ideas/help before I take the whole thing apart to troubleshoot.
Any assistance its appreciated.

Are you using the proper kubota bolts? The augers use grade 5 but the fan uses grade 8. Other than that I have no idea.

I have used Rotella in everthing I've owned for years. Took the wifes 2006 Jeep Commander 4.7 to the local quick lube place and asked if they would put in the Rotella. NO, it's not specified in the manual so they would not do it. Took it to the local Jeep dealer and they and the service manager said no problem, just pay the difference. Go figure.
