Water in oil 327cu/in Chevy

Actually, I found the culprit for the alternator issue. I need to run my ground cable back to the block and I believe this will remedy it. We shall see.

You could save alot of cable and time by running a cable from the block to the frame, and leaving the rear ground cable hooked to the rear frame. I did this on mine, I also added one from the block to the body tub. I do not have a rear mounted battery, but started to see weird electrical gremlins pop up after adding electric fans, digital ignition box, electric gauges, electric fuel pump etc. The ground cables chased those gremlins away.

I may try that. I just want to be sure not to cause any electrical issues. It used to go from the block to the battery when the battery was up front.

Not to go off topic, but

Did you see the article maybe a year ago in Hot Rod or one of those mags, about the guy who put a tweaked up Duramax/Allison in a 70ish Chevelle? Was supposed to be really fast, and got amazing fuel mileage.

Wouldn't that be cool, a 11 second Chevelle that got 28mpg!

One of our Tech's runs 10.25 in the 1/4 mile and he doesn't use any fuel or gas...355volts!! :thumbsup:

I've heard of that but it still doesn't sound like a V8 and never will...I give him credit for accomplishing that though. :thumbsup:

That's a very impressive machine..I'm just old school (not really old either)...I like making 13sec out of a BB Chevy as opposed to the new stuff...Stuck in my ear ringing noise and a boat anchor under the hood I guess.

I give that dude a ton of credit for creativity, not many can pull that one off.:drink:

I know what you mean, I was the same way but I have changed. It all started for me when I bought my 2004 Powerstroke F-250 and took it to the track after putting on exhaust, intake, and a chip. It would run 13.9 in the quarter with $900 of mods. 13.9 was my best but I could put down mid 14's each and every time in 4 high with a 7,600# truck that only turns 2,800 rpm.

I now love the BMW 335I we have. It has a inline 6 cylinder that is 3 liters and has twin turbos. I have not had it to the track but its fast. Car and Driver and other publications say they run 0 to 60 in 4 seconds and the quarter in the 12's. Pretty good for a 4 door sedan. Its a sleeper for sure. I love blowing the doors of guys who are not aware what this car can do.

The weather and time finally cooperated enough today to allow me to investigate. I changed the oil and from what I could tell it had about 1/4-1/2 quart of water, not much. I put in 4.5 qts of oil and a 1/2 qt of marvel mystery. I redid the last of the chewed wiring also. I fired it up and let it warm up. I had the radiator cap off and watched for bubbles. I did not see any. I am leaning to condensation causing my water in oil issue. I have a couple other bugs to solve. I can't seem to keep passenger side header gaskets from leaking. I am wondering if the header might be slightly warped and not making a good seal. I also relocated the battery to the trunk and every time I disconnect the neutral cable the car dies. The alternator tested fine and I have the neutral grounded to the frame as instructed on the relocation instructions. I did not have this issue when the cable was grounded to the block when the batter was under the hood. I have the alternator wire on the same terminal @ the starter as the positive battery cable. I will continue to experiment and see what I come up with. It felt good to hear that 327 "lope" again. I recorded a couple short videos of it running on my i-phone and will see if I can get them from the phone to here.

On Saturday, when i changed the oil, i let it drain for 20-30 minutes. Maybe i did not let all the moisture and crud get out. It may take a few oil changes to get it all out. Next time, i will do what previous poster said. Drain the oil into one pan, leave the plug out, and leave a clean pan under the car for a couple days and see if any water ends up in the pan. If so, i guess i will start on the new motor.

Did you let the car get to 180 and run for a while before you drained the oil?
