Gold rush

I think he screwed himself by saying he wanted 1000 ounces. Halfway through the show he said he wanted 500-1000 then. With the equipment they have now Id be surprised if they got 150 ounces.

Yeah, they will probably show up with $250,000 worth of new equipment and then mine about $200,000 worth of gold.

Anybody watch Bering Sea Gold? That outfit with the excavator on the barge is at 490 ounces. Has to be expensive as heck to operate there, wonder what a steak in a restaurant costs in Nome (assuming you can get one)?

As he is driving away right at the end, did anyone else hear the utterance from Hoffman that he wanted two thousand ounces next year???. They are going to need another mechanic. Harness must have been an excellent one in his heyday but I think his back and drugs have gotten the better of him. I at least hope he is happy with his new girlfriend and there is nothing saying there won't be some type of reconciliation. I think the best piece of advice is the one they got from the guy with the giant processor stuck in the mud: "go on holiday" he stated meaning "you guys are wasting your time" There are a couple of things not being shown or brought attention to. 1. I am sure these guys are getting paid handsomely for just the show and probably more money that they ever made with their jobs. 2. We don't know what's happening behind the scenes for next season's show to stage a magnificent gold find as if it was purely chance for the drama quotient. Of course it brings into question about the show's longevity if they do strike it rich.

Another charlatan drama queen show. Did you see in last nights episode where the girl "accidently" falls into the sea. If there was ever a staging where it was asked of her to take a dip and make it look accidental, that was it. She is not a very good actress as she did little to to disguise the fact that the act was on purpose. My word am I getting to hate these shows. I feel Discovery has to think we are so stupid that its all we deserve. Why isn't anyone doing a show on the Panama canal reconstruction or something that would be interesting for at least an episode. Discovery Channel used to be that way but they've established more a exploitment attitude because it seems to be a money maker. If it ween't for the machinery, I'd never watch it. As a matter of fact, knowing what they are doing, I should never watch this crap again but it is as hard as turning away from a train wreck.

I don't know why all the resentment towards Fred. I like Fred. The show's producers even stated in one of their behind the scenes shows that the show may be making Fred look bad, when that wasn't (supposedly) the purpose. The truth is that the Porcupine Creek Mine was for sale for quite some time, even when the Hoffmans were working it. Fred finally had enough money to buy the claim, and did so. He was actually interested in buying it for quite some time. On one of the behind the scenes episodes they actually showed part of the conversation between Fred and the previous owner that the show edited out for dramatic purposes, and it really made it clear that Fred isn't some sort of claim jumper but was interested in buying the land even before the Hoffmans leased it. Plus, let's not forget that the Hoffmans missed making their payment on the lease. It's not Fred's fault that they didn't hold up their end of the bargain.

As for the rest of the show, I like the Schnabels the best. They not only know what they are doing, but are helpful to others, and actually make every effort to play by the rules. I don't dislike the Hoffmans, but I don't think I'd follow Jack or Todd anywhere. The person that I like the best on the Hoffman crew is Dave Turin. He's the only one that has a clue what he's doing and is probably the biggest reason that the Hoffmans have had any success. The Hoffman crew is learning and I admire them for that and I wish them the best. I also wish Fred the best too, and hope that he strikes it rich too. I think Fred quite frankly is much better organized and has a much better plan than the Hoffmans ever did. Personally, if I had to choose between working for Fred or the Hoffmans I'd choose working for Fred every time.

I do not like fred, h*ll his son doesnt even like him much

I have not read but from page 10 in this thread, forgive me if this has been said;

IMO,

RE: The claims of "We got this many ounces and that many ounces" .

If you were mining, and there were cameras watching you, knowing that for every dollar you claim publically, that you will be paying taxes on said, would't you tend to maybe...., maybe only claim A THIRD or LESS of what you really find? :D

Come on, they dive'd up the gold, the Hoffman crew that is, and what was it, like 8K each for how long of work? I bet ya they figure out expenses plus a tiny bit and only claim that. The rest, well what uncle Sam don't know, does not hurt uncle Sam.

Nope, I ain't buying there claims one bit. Would you work 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 4.5 months for 8K and WANT to go back? That is $1777.78 a month or $444.45 cents a week or $63.50 a day or, lets lower the hours worked in a day to 12, sound fair, ok, that is $5.29 an HOUR! Now, what is the minimum wage in the state of Alaska? What do they demand workers be paid per hour? That is gross, NOW SUBTRACT TAXES AND FICA ETC! LOL!

LOL, ya following me here?

They would be FOOLS to claim everything they make. I bet ya Gramps had a talk w/ Parker after his little 55K brick stunt. If you were to spend a lot of money in fuel to melt a brick would you make small bricks? Maybe, but I doubt it.

Pulling Gold out of the ground is a CASH BUSINESS. THAT is why Todd didn't tell parker what was up and Parker is too young yet to know I bet! Well, now I bet ya he knows.

I do not know the process of turning gold into currency, maybe there is a mandatroy deal like when you cash in scrap you have to show ID, even so, that can be beat.

Probably because Discovery would just get in the way and get kicked off the site...

The guys at Quartz creek are the laughing stock of the area from what I've heard. The over-dramatization built into the show may be entertaining to some, but I doubt this is a gold profit venture by a long stretch. They may be laughing all the way to the bank, but not from digging gold! They're going to recover 1000oz next season(?), and that's straight BS.

The only thing those guys on Gold Rush dig is GOLD B.S. There is not a miner in the bunch. If not for the equipement like a previous quote I wouldnt even turn on the tv. They tare up more then they work and the last show were Harnes leaves was B.S. The guys no more at fault then the rest of the wanna B miners, IMO he is far from being the escape goat!
