Gold rush

I don't know why all the resentment towards Fred. I like Fred. The show's producers even stated in one of their behind the scenes shows that the show may be making Fred look bad, when that wasn't (supposedly) the purpose. The truth is that the Porcupine Creek Mine was for sale for quite some time, even when the Hoffmans were working it. Fred finally had enough money to buy the claim, and did so. He was actually interested in buying it for quite some time. On one of the behind the scenes episodes they actually showed part of the conversation between Fred and the previous owner that the show edited out for dramatic purposes, and it really made it clear that Fred isn't some sort of claim jumper but was interested in buying the land even before the Hoffmans leased it. Plus, let's not forget that the Hoffmans missed making their payment on the lease. It's not Fred's fault that they didn't hold up their end of the bargain.

As for the rest of the show, I like the Schnabels the best. They not only know what they are doing, but are helpful to others, and actually make every effort to play by the rules. I don't dislike the Hoffmans, but I don't think I'd follow Jack or Todd anywhere. The person that I like the best on the Hoffman crew is Dave Turin. He's the only one that has a clue what he's doing and is probably the biggest reason that the Hoffmans have had any success. The Hoffman crew is learning and I admire them for that and I wish them the best. I also wish Fred the best too, and hope that he strikes it rich too. I think Fred quite frankly is much better organized and has a much better plan than the Hoffmans ever did. Personally, if I had to choose between working for Fred or the Hoffmans I'd choose working for Fred every time.

Back in High school I had a FFA instructor named John Schnabel and really think he could be same guy, age is right now and really looks and acts like same person. Would really like to know more of his background. One of the teachers that actually good at teaching real life skills and was great with us kids.

Discovery has a forum section for the gold shows where you can find out a lot more info and even ask questions. You might just know John. ???

I too would work for Fred, but never Todd! Fred- business man , Todd- dreamer.

Miss those shows had to give up cable to cut back on budget. If I only got a channel that showed gold rush ax men pawn stars and the like I would have been happy. Some day maybe I'll get it back.

It runs about the same as "professional" wrestling in my mind. All staged and scripted. Oh yeah! We already knew that from previous posts.

I have mined a little and been around miners here in Southern Oregon. The real miners are a little off but mostly on the quiet side. Comercial miners are usually a closed mouth bunch. It's business.

Oregon has Gold mining operations commercial and recreational. The New 49'ers gold mining association has increased buying claims and mining property in Oregon. I am not a member but am considering. California has all but destroyed mining in their state.

And since Deere now owns Hitachi, and they have one of the largest parts supply networks in the world... I'm sure they forgot about that... The more I actually WATCH the show instead of watching it, the more I realize this is fake.

I haven't heard this. When did that happen?

Deere has been selling Hitachi excavators for awhile now. They paint them yellow and put a Deere engine in them instead of the Isuzu that the orange Hitachi's come with. Otherwise, they are the same machines.

I think the Hoffman's will get their 100+ ounces with a miraculous last clean-out, Dakota Fred will still beat them mining their glory hole, and Parker will somehow find a vein in Smith's Crick that will "save" the Big Nugget Mine. And next season, I'd expect the Hoffman's to buy a D9 and start making money right out of the gate for a change (unless Fred figures out a way to his hands on their Klondike too)

I wonder how much a new under carriage on that D8 would/will cost... did you see how worn the sprockets were when they were taking a link out of the tracks so they could drive it around without the tracks falling off?
