Seafoam

   / Seafoam #81
I have used seafoam for years in small engines especially marine, dirt bikes and outdoor power equipment. Mainly as a preventitive I will put a few ounces in the mix. I have had almost no carb issues for many years. I have bought it at O'Reilly's by the gallon for $50+. I did see Coleman Fuel at Walmart for $9.99 per gallon and the label said that it has rust inhibitors in the fuel. My question is would using the coleman fuel be almost the same as seafoam? In my earlier truck driving days we used lots of rubbing alcohol in the gas tank to fight condensation or bad gas. It made sense at the time.

The new fuel doen't need anything added. Until the mid 80's if you let an open top pail of gasoline evaporate away. There was a nasty layer of gum and varnish left behind. Last time I looked it was 2012 and gasoline is clean and stays clean . Otherwise emissions vehicles would fail. Coleman lantern fuel/naphtha gasoline is just very low octane straight cut gasoline off the distillation tower. It's just a bulk filler to dillute the IPA and mineral oil with.

10% ethanol will not attack quality fuel system plastic or rubber. Dumping in methanol which is sold as the lower priced gasline antifreeze will certainly ruin any non E85 plastic or rubber. Not a problem here as Only 100LL is allowed in any smal seasonal engine here.

Curious, About coleman fuel...have you burned it for motor fuel? How good a cleaner does it make. I have several gallons in my shop from camping days...I know we burned White Amoco gas in our coleman lanterns and stoves..So. Who can tell??

10% ethanol may not attack plastic and rubber in NEW cars and engines, but it is a different story with older engines. And it does absorb moisture.

For cleaning, Amsoil power foam is 10000X better then seafoam and cheaper. Also B12 Chemtool is way better. Why anyone still buys overpriced seafoam is beyond me.

Because we can buy Seafoam almost anywhere.
