If they are worn in the heel it also doesn't take very much wear to significantly reduce their capacity.
I think he meant 1.5"x4" cross section. Of course if they worn enough that a forklift dealer is giving them away they have a fraction of that capacity. I also doubt that frame is rated for 5500 lbs. I hope the guy you sold the combo to isn't using them on a machine big enough to really work them.
I would be thinking about weight. For a SS or forklift the weight of the forks really isn't an issue but for a CUT an extra couple of hundred pounds is a little more noticeable.

So a little more design and use of less, but hi strength, steel could yield a good payoff. Yet you dont see much employment of T1 steel and varying cross sections according to load points. Id be willing to pay more in many cases. Forks would be one.I understand what you are saying, but trust me a couple hundred pounds matters on all material handling equipment.
