What full size 4X4 truck is made outside the US and imported???

Dodge Rams, being made in Mexico and brought here for sale. I don't know if it's all or not.

GM has a plant in Mexico also that makes full sized trucks, don't know how many.

Last I read Ford was building some engines in Mexico, but had closed the truck plant they had and moved production to Ohio..

I am surprised they idled Volt production instead of just kept taking losses on it; I am eating crow on that one. But I believe it is important that we develop electric car technology, manufacturing process, battery supply/materials chain, and so on.

In ten or twenty years we might be nostalgic for the days of $4/gallon fuel. The developing world is ... developing ... and so is its oil consumption. On the other hand, oil production is flat. In the U.S. we have several different resources we can use to make electricity; coal, nuclear, hydro, blablah. Whether or not they are "clean" compared to dinosaur juice, I don't know; but at least the money from coal electricity stays largely within our country.

Seems few folk have heard tell of the massive Bakken oil field reserves. The US could run till 2041 on those reserves alone. As for electric car tech getting better. Pure bullsh!t . There is no way to make a chemical battery with better energy to weight capacity and be affordable or safe. Stuck with a battery pack that makes up half the weight of the car and carries 1-2 gallons gasoline worth of energy.

No the trucks may not be subsidized by public money. But how many of those trucks were made outside the U.S. That's like a subsidy to the manufacturer. Cheap labor to build, still sold at a high cost. Not to mention not being built by a U.S. citizen that would pay tax on his earnings. There is your subsidy in a different form.

I bet you drive a Subaru.

Youre really trying to convince anyone that that is the same thing as a direct subsidy of $7500 per car?

Diesels are way to bogged down with "clean emission" garbage now. A friend of mine has a 2009 F350 diesel that would get 12-13 mpg. He pulled all the BS off of it, re programed it and now gets a honest 23 mpg.

Check the mileage with careful filling at the pump. Don't believe a dash mounted mpg display After reprogramming.

Some where in this thread I stated I drive a 2008 Prius. 45 to 50 mpg all day everyday. 170,000 miles. When it hits 200,000 we will buy another and keep the 2008. The wife drives 150 miles round trip to work three times per week. I can pass anything on the freeway and go 450 miles on a tank. With five people and luggage.
Oh, and I do have a 1997 Dodge 1500 with 255,000 miles. Made in Mexico. I sits in the driveway most of the time.
I would never drive a Subaru, too many problems.

So instead, he ended up with a fuel efficient, cheap to own and maintain car that has more power, more room, quieter, more luxurious, gets better fuel economy, better resale and is WAY nicer to drive!:D

If thats how you do your math in your part of the world see it that way. :confused2: We will just have to disagree.

Remember, he told me they were going to buy a fuel efficient, cheap to own car. He did not look at the big picture. They would have bought a Porsche if they would have walked on that lot first.

Yep. I don't like subsidizing anything at the manufacturing level. It should be at the consumer level, wheather it is a car or insulation credit or household waterheater. Same with farming.
When a manufacturer takes a job out of the country and imports the product back into this country we all lose.
The manufacturer has a product built somewhere else. And the people in that country can't afford the product. He brings the products back into this country and trys to sell it to people with no money because they are out of work.
The people building the product pay no U.S. taxes. The people out of work in this country pay no taxes, and they can't buy that product from the manufacturer that doe's pay taxes.
The people out of work are being subsidized by the Government either by drawing Unemployment or other government programs.
The illegal immigrant from the country that made the product and working for less wages here is not paying taxes. And he is sending money back home and not spending the money here on a product from a manufacturer that doe's pay taxes.
If someone else is not paying the taxes that means you are paying more. That is a direct subsidy out of your pocket because that manufacturer took jobs out of the country.
The point is. A product should be made where the larger market demand is.
You would be hardpressed to find any Vehicle made entirely from material made in the U.S.
We are not the only consumers in the world, but we do consume more than anyone else.
