I wish there would have been something this easy to understand 20 years ago when I was involved in a discussion with a co-worker about how small the milky-way is compared to the size of the universe. He thought the milky-way was as big as it gets.

On a similar vein, this is an example of how long eternity is:

Image the time it would take one single bird to pick up a single grain of sand on the east coast, fly to the west coast, drop the grain of sand, and the fly back to the east coast. Then imagine the time it would take for that same bird to move all the sand from the entire east coast to the west coast - one grain at a time.

Now picture a line that runs from earth to the moon and continues on - forever. The time it took that bird to move the sand is a single point on this line. ..........

In the overall scheme of things, what happens on this planet doesn't matter.

Thanks for posting. Recent research has indicated that the Universe is expanding. Even traveling at the speed of light - 186,000 miles a second - it definitely would be a lengthly exploration. Infinity? Yes, definitely.

Back in school, the instructor built a scale Cad model of the solar system pretty cool to look at back then but nothing like today or that link you posted.
