JD Planter?

I dont think JD makes them anymore but yetter does and I think they made them for JD yrs ago.. Yetter is the same as the 71 flex...

PAfarmer
that was the question-thanks... It doesnt look like a 71 to me. Cant get in touch with the guy right now? so it may be sold..

AndyG

I asked him about it last week, that was a good price. He didn't know much about it. I think it is a 51, If I was sure it was a 71 I would have bought it last Thursday.

I don't believe it's a 71 or a 70 Flexi. If you look closely at the unit without a lid on the seed hopper, notice the flat steel frame attached to the press wheel. On a 71 or a 70 Flexi, the press wheel assembly is attached with a cast drive housing. The press wheel itself, looks different than a 70 or 71. I think the small wheels are gage wheels for the toolbar. If I was a bettin man, bet its got a shoe/runner opener. I THINK it looks like a 50 or 51 JD planter unit. It'd be easier to tell with a picture of the other side, and less weeds in the picture. The picture below is a 70 Flexi planter I refurbbed, that predates the 71 Flexi. Compare it to Flusher's 71, and note the similarities. If the price was right, I'd get em for the project value. Of course, I could be wrong. :D Mark

Question- what type plates does a JD 51 use? same as the 70 and 71 flex planters?

After looking at the parts breakdown for a 51, compared to my 70, the 51 parts breakdown uses the same false plates as the 70. Soooo, IMHO I would have to say yes, they use the same plates. Mark

Thanks Mark-- I have heard that they all take B plates- so I am trying to confirm...

Well- I bought that planter today and go it home..I ended up getting it for $300. It was a model 51 with gauge wheels on the front. It will be my summer project, after I plant this 6ac sunflower field in a few weeks. Spent about 3-4 hrs today going thru it and after I got the chains limber and working the planter seems to be functioning fine. I did find one small problem with the seed chute (metal liner) in the base of the planter. One was completely rusted out and the other one I was able to get out, but it too is shot.. I found the part number on john deere parts but cannot find the # AB33994 anywhere-- SO I will just have to make 2 of them. I have a good template with the one that I was able to salvage.. Order a ops manual for it today off ebay for $20 so hopefully I will learn more.. Really simple machine- but I have no clue how to set it up

Mark, called Lincoln ag today and model 51, 70 and 71 planters all take the B plates- so getting some sunflower plates will be easy. It came with H1255B plates which are soybean plates.

The lower pins on the tool bar were WAY to wide for my tractor so I had to spin them inside just to get it off the trailer- another thing I will fix- along with a dang kick stand for the front.. IT is a heavy sucker!! pics below....

I was able to fab up 2 seed chutes over the last few days between work and kids basketball.:confused2: The first one took me a few minutes to get it to fit right- but the second one went fast. Now just some sealer and then paint!
