I'm getting SO SICK of gas prices and car taxes!

Gas prices really haven't changed over the last 40 years when you factor in inflation.

The problem is that the out of control government spending and borrowing has devalued the dollar (and, of course, driven up taxes to pay for a small percentage of it.)

Crude oil is priced in US$. As the real value of the dollar had dropped, the sources demand more dollars for the same barrel of crude oil.

If you don't like what is happening to fuel prices and taxes, demand that our politicians get their spending under control.

Of course, the government hasn't helped with restrictions on new refineries, pollution control devices which kill fuel efficiency, and the ethanol scam and stopping a new pipeline from Canada.

So say you are driving a $48,000 truck like me yet you got it for $27,500 when all was said and done. they tax you on the $48,000 NOT what you ended up paying for the truck. My 1/2 truck has higher taxes then some 3/4 and 1 ton trucks on the road. crazy or what??:confused2: My taxes on my truck were $800. $800!!!!
This is just getting out of hand in this country.

getting into this very late, however,,, welcome to Connecticut,, we've had personal property taxes on vehicles as long as I can remember and with the exact same costs as you have,,, And they wonder why so many are up for sale and go elsewhere,,

oh come off it. the prices are inflated cause they can get away with it. Just cause Europeans are dumb enough to get gouged doesnt mean were supposed to roll over and accept it. Most of those countries can be traversed in hours...not days and weeks. its not the same thing as it is here.

People that just say man up and pay are the reason its gotten so bad.

Doesn't matter what any of us think, or say, the cost is one of economics. Europe, has chosen to tax fuel, to keep the money in their countries. They send less $$ out of their economies that way. As far as the personal economics, 5030 is right, it's one of choices. I have a GMC 2500 HD, it's great to drive. I only put about 1K on it last year, at 12 to 15 mpg, it's not smart to drive it. I drive my HHR 90% of the time. I have a 83 year old neighbor, he drives a F350 diesel. I have never seen him haul or tow anything, in 25 years. He complains constantly about fuel costs. But he complains about everything. I don't see us ever going back to cheap energy, no matter who is in office. The politicians don't control the economy, it controls them.

Every time Geithner prints money the price of oil goes up. Don't like it, stop your government from printing money and then borrowing it, it's called monetizing the dept. It's the poison pill and America is taking it now. Expect gas to raise to $10 if current anti oil policies continue after November.

Diesel is not the answer. Look at the price of diesel now compared to 15 years ago. I bought a diesel tractor and truck in the late 90's because it was cheap. Now everyone has a CUT tractor and a Dmax in the drive and diesel fuel is $.45 per gallon more than gas. With all the new regulations on diesel stuff and the improvements in gas powered stuff the mpg gap is closed. Heck, a standard Honda Civic, no hybrid crap, does 40 mpg or better.

Yeah, I think it was the Secretary of Energy who said that he feels that U.S. gas prices should be the same as Europe. He also said that he doesn't even own a car. We (the taxpayers) get to pay for his transportation.

Add into that the additional up front cost for a diesel option ($3-5K?) and it will take a lot of miles to get your money back, if ever. Diesel is great for applications where it is needed (e.g. heavy towing). For a family car? I doubt it.

5K, I wish. Its more like 9K as a option now days.
