Very much out of hand but, we have wayyyyyyy too many nieve Americans gladly follow the heard. People actually follow the line of bull when politicians tell you they wont raise taxes. No they wont raise income tax, but, the add tax to everything else like beverages, prepared food and so on.

I posted a challange on this thread and many others and so far no one has taken it. The challange was for one month add up all the tax you paid to state and federal government and you will find that in the year 2012, you will not be taking home any money from your paycheck for the first 4-6 months.

Slightly less than three months for all local, state and federal taxes (including payroll) as documented earlier in this thread. I think we get our money's worth for what we pay.

That (post 70) is correct. Politicians control the money supply and then the oil companies adjust their prices relative to the money supply. It's an indirect tax.

The oil industry is never cited as an example of free market in economics. It's an oligopoly. "a market situation in which a few producers control the demand from many buyers."

I have a Land Rover Discovery (1998) with a 2.5 turbo diesel engine

It has covered over 160 thousand miles and returns 30+ miles per gallon local and over 40 on a run

I will be pulling a small twin axle trailer with side boards for general moving things around and a car transporter trailer (the one in my signature) and I expect 25 plus mpg towing a car.

I can tow over three tons legally with the Discovery and it is also a very comforable car with cruise control etc.

I think the laws in some states may not allow the Land Rover due to emmissions but cant understand why when thousands of planes fly every day with no restrictions on exhaust pollution and the railways run diesels which also to my knowledge have little or no restrictions so why ban some cars which polute a lot less.

tractors will be next:D

They already are. Maybe not small ones yet but pollution controls abound on larger tractors including the use of DEF.

Why do you think "some people" don't want the Canada pipe line. Check out who is making more than $1.00 on every GALLON pumped for doing NOTHING.

That is a $1.00 for EVERY GALLON PUMPED. That come out to about 391 million gallons or DOLLARS a day ........that are also taxes.

Then someone takes that 391 MILLION dollars a DAY and redistributes it, to everyone but you and me.

Redistribution is a nice term for entitlement. However, it's the same thing.

My question or comment is, when has a dollar been worth a dollar? Not for a long time.

If you need a big truck for your job, thats a pretty good reason. If fuel prices go up, you pass that on to the people you work for, its that simple. If lumber costs more, shingles, what ever, you don't eat that price increase, you pass it on. It should be the same for fuel. I don't like high fuel prices either, but if it was hurting me that bad, I would change my vehicles and driving habits.

Very good. When a vehicle or tractor is used for commercial purposes, you add in a fuel surcharge. I do it all the time for my custom forage business. It's the price of doing business. When I haul hay, it's built into the fuel I fuel my diesel pickup with.

Having said that when I drive for personal reasons, it's not the 350 Diesel. It's a car or my Caddy that gets 33 with a V8.

I'd never in a million years consider having a large pickup truck as a grocery hauler or as a commuter vehicle, something I see everyday. I see 3/4 ton pickups with lids on the back or open beds with not a mark inside and I know they can't pass a gas station without getting a drink.

For those of you who believe big oil and the government are directly responsible for the price of gasoline being $4.00/gallon in the US I ask:

Who is responsible for natural gas being less than $2.00/mcf at the wellhead? Is this a conspiracy between the government and the oil execs to trash half of the energy industry? Do any of you know how much it costs the oil companies per mcf to drill and produce natural gas?

This whole thread is rather myopic because you are addressing only one segment of the energy industry - vehicle fuel - simply because it is the most visible. Seems to me the bellyaching shows you want to drive your belchfire v8 superduty's on superhighways that someone else pays for.

One last question, how may of you own and drive a scooter? I was struck by the number of people riding scooters in Europe in the early 60's because it was rare to see one in the US.

Actually, he is just bashing other forum members for the sport of it. I drive an F350 because it is impossible to fit a table saw, mitre saw, a couple ladders, circular saws, and boxes of other tools in a Chevy Aveo. And I DON'T buy any fuel I don't have to. If I need to go to town hall..... I walk. My wife and I no longer drive anywhere we don't have to. How many restaurants, movie theaters, stores, etc no longer get any of our dollars? Fuel has DOUBLED in the past three years....... you think that is Ok? Guess I should just take it lying down cuz 5030 says I should? He is still stuck on criticizing ME because he thinks Mitt Romney was the governor of New Hampshire, when I've already explained to him it was Massachusetts. Perhaps his problem is that he doesn't read well. Yeah, he is the only one making sense. :confused2::confused2:

No, I'm not. What I'm presenting is a bit of common sense. Nothing more.

If you are hauling those tools for your business and not rolling in the fuel cost per job, you are a piss poor businessman. Again, I do it on every job and I present my customers with an itemized breakdown of costs including fuel cost. People appreciate you being up front. I have all the business I can handle on the forage end BTW.

I apologize for the geographical misrepresentation.....Massachusetts, New Hampshire, it's all the same to me, it's East of here. I heat Main has some good bear hunts, but I've Never been there.....He's (Rummy) from up there and yes his dad was the governor of this state at one time. He's still a flip flopper and a RINO and like all professional politicians, talks out both sides of his mouth, depending on who he's talking to.

I'm sure it's wonderful there where you live. It ain't bad here. Life is what you make it, anywhere.

I don't look for Rummy (if he gets elected and I highly doubt it) to change anything, despite what he touts. Keep in mind that other than Executive Order, any President has to deal with the Senate and Congress.

We all know that oil runs this country, drives the economy And is the perpetual hot topic but fact remains, unless you cut your personal consumption, it always bites you in the shorts.

I still remember the gas shortage of the 60's, where you waited in line for an hour to buy gas. I rode my bicycle alot that year, car pooled to the drive-in and spent a lot of quality time at home.

Do drive-in's even exist anymore?

.......and the most universally consumed, by consumers, like you and me......

It's also the most in-your-face because it's a weekly or more thing whereas NG is a monthly bill, or in my case LP which is a yearly bill.

On that tack, you'll see more and more NG, LPG and CNG vehicles on the roads in the future.

You mean the '70's. I remember paying $.179 for a gallon of gas in the very early '70's.

This is why i will not buy a new vehicle let alone a truck, A they cost way to much B they get crappy mileage after they fact that you pay $450/month to get this 1-3mpg better than a 10-15 yr old truck and C property taxes are crazy.

My sugestion is to buy a 5-10K pickup and a beater car to drive for gas mileage to work each day.

Every time Geithner prints money the price of oil goes up. Don't like it, stop your government from printing money and then borrowing it, it's called monetizing the dept. It's the poison pill and America is taking it now. Expect gas to raise to $10 if current anti oil policies continue after November.

HS

Generally the Federal Reserve determines how much money is in the system, not the Treasury. The Treasury prints money but only currency, not the really, really big sums of money created electronically by the Feds.
