Kubota or SCAG

I know they kubota diesel is an option on a new tiger. I did hear that this motor is a bit underpowered compared to cat diesel.

on the dealer side, there are some hickups when CAT/Perkins engines are involved. A Ferris/Scag/whoever dealer is often unable to do warrenty service on the CAT/Perkins engine. The machine has to be taken to a CAT certified shop to be worked on.. the dealer can't do it. That causes alot of hesidency to really promote the CAT engine products.

..it does look cool though :)

I have a ZD 331. I strongly recommend trying out both mowers on your own property and then making a choice. One might be better based upon your terrain. I would go diesel hands down. More fuel efficient, longer lasting. Personally, I love my Kubota. One of the best purchases I have made, bar none. Youll be very happy with one.

As much as I would like to have another kubota, I picked up a mint scag turf tiger with liquid Kawasaki engine. The price was right, I just hope I don't regret it.

Maximus, I also am considering a ZD with rear discharge. Please elaborate why this is an undesirable feature. You may have a better understanding of its implications than I do. JohnThomas clearly likes it.

I have a ZD326 rear discharge and I LOVE it's power and the fact that it doesn't pile up clippings when the grass you're cutting is fairly deep. I am disappointed in the amount of grass and dirt that get's sucked into the radiator screen. The last thing I do after I'm done mowing is open it up and blow it all out with the leaf blower (the Kubota mechanic suggested using an air compressor, but I don't have one setup and ready to go all of the time.) and the 1st thing I do before I get started is blow it out again just incase I got distracted the last time putting it up. The thing is a beast however and I actually can cut deeper thicker grass quicker than my neighbor's ZD328...

I currently have two F model Kubotas (ones for sale F2680E 60" rear discharge deck) and both have rear discharge decks. I previously owned a Rear Finish Mower with rear discharge deck. I prefer the rear discharge deck because it allows me to cut close on either side and it lays the cut grass down more even over the cut area with no windrows.
The blowed up grass all over the mower is the down side. I have compressors available for blowing off the grass but it's a bit irritating. The screen lifts out of mine very easy and then just wipe the grass off of it is what I do. I just use my compressor for blowing grass off of the rest of the machine after every two or three mowings.
I've pondered attaching a stiff rubber strip (maybe 6" to 8" across the top of the discharge chute to see if it will get the grass back just a bit further to help with the issue. Have the rubber now (from a big truck mudflap) but still haven't done it, yet.:)

Before I had
Y Scags I mowed with a B 22. I prefer the Scag for cut quality. I just last weekend got a new Walker 23 hp and the cut is incredible as well as the speed.

I took some pictures of the rubber flaps that mine came with that I'm sure help but it's still a pain.

Thanks. That's what I was pondering doing. Plan for mine to be a thick stiffer rubber that will come back about 6 to 8 inches and then may have a droop because of lack of support toward the rear of the rubber piece. Only screwed to the deck.
I don't think mine blows it up so bad when I'm mowing the grass that I only mow when it gets high enough to know for sure where I've mowed, which some people complain about:) and I keep my deck set fairly high to not cut down to the dirt but when I have to back up it's recutting the cut grass which I think is doing most of the blowing the fine cut stuff up where the fan suction pulls it up into the screen and all over the bottom. Theory, not proven fact. Theory: Recutting already cut grass creates more fine grass particles which will be lighter weight and more prone to be sucked up by engine cooling fan.
