The coons and possums would raid our carport and chew the lid off the rubbermaid container, had to buy a steel trash can and close the garage door sooner...All our small wild critters seem to like cat food??l

I had the same problem on my deck. I don't know what (probably a squirrel) was chewing on our container doing lots of damage. I went out one day and there were the same chew marks, but the container was totally covered in blood. It looked like someone dumped a few cups of blood on the lid. there were spatters all around as well. I still don't know exactly what happened, but my theory is it was a big squirrel and our resident hawk got him as he was chewing on it. It was pretty weird to try and piece together!

Moss....I am seeing a very disturbing pattern here. That's twice you have been "un-armed" ....don't let that happen again:D

I never walk out the door here without my leatherman and some kind of firearm. Usually it's a Henry Golden Boy 22LR. I bought a couple of leather scabbards off fleabay cheap, one's on the 'wheeler, the other on the tractor....so I have no "excuses";)

Rick,

I know, I know... I need to get off my fanny and get my carry permit...

I am also planning to get ATV style shotgun holders for my Tractor so I can have SOMETHING in the field easily.

But I was off the property just barely off the pavement and driving, and it was running across the drive, I only had maybe 1 second... No shot...

He just saw one on night and decided to give it a go. He would throw the dogs out by the light and sit in the house watching, and checking the time they would come in. They would also hit the dogs and move on and he would use two dogs broken in half, so you had to be quick.

Don't know how the ones behind it figured it out put we shot 3 foxes at 9 pm three nights in a row, and he had already shot half a dozen before he called me. I'm just figuring with a foxes keen sense they follow behind each other, in a territorial way picking up scraps from the ones before it. All I know is the hot dogs worked. They were not directly under the light but off to the side were you can see the fox when he appeared but not in direct light.

Combustix,

I have no working light on my property except the porch light, so I'm trying to figure out a way to try this hot dog method... I REALLY like it, but the AR has only got a white light setup, and it is a 90+ yds shot to the pond minimum, I needs to be able to see my target...

My wife loves this idea, she will fund lots of hot dogs for this effort...

I heard howling right close to the house one night years ago. Too close. I grabbed a rifle and a Mag light. In my best Elmer voice, "I went hunt'n."

With the Mag light I was able to see the eyes of my noisy visitor which was Charlie Fox. Or Charlene Fox. I really was not checking THAT closely. :D Surprisingly Mr/Mrs Fox stood there and stared back at me abut 200 feet away. That is the ONLY time I have seen the standing still. Usually you see a glimpse of them and they are gone.

Since it was a fox I did not shoot. We did not have Chicken Pets back then and I was only concerned with coyotes.

Have you tried your light t night? Your light might work better than you think it will. Granted my Mag light is a big one with four D cells. I was looking at lights to mount to rifles and for the price of them things they should light up a spot a mile away. :D

David,
If its in your budget , I have a flashlight caller The Kill light . it came with a white , green and red interchangeable Leds. has an effective range of about 250 yards. also came with picattiny rail mount and three different trigger switches. you can mount a momentary switch on your foward grip and light mr fox right up !

hog hunting lights, feeder lights, blood trailing aids

Good luck and happy hunting !!

Hope this helps.

Oh and Btw , my stepson got a bobcat last night with a remote call box, had it set on a wounded jackrabbit call. ms bobcat came in on a rail right to it.He wasnt out there 5 mins an had her!!

I think the red light would probably work the best !!

Dan and Scott,

My borrowed AR has awesome white led, and it totally works. The problem is I can only use it until I can no longer see with my eyes... If I cannot see the fox approach/take hot dog, a quick soptlight to freeze target so I can shoot is not effective.

I'm cosidering hanging a lantern or something out by pond for a few nights to see if anything pops.

I also used "wounded cottontail" call and got nothing. I will need to try it again.

Buy a couple of cheap solar lights and put down by the pond within shooting range. Then start putting the hot dogs, sacrificial chicken (when no one else is home), etc. May be enough light to see him but not to keep him away.

MossFlowerWoods had a family issue that has minimized his Fox hunting time. I am sure he will be back after Wiley Fox soon.
