Filimentious Algae. Tractor Supply sells an algicide that will pretty well kill it off. They also sell Aquashade to darken the water to keep it from growing.Neither are cheap but work well.I am working on my second gallon of the Aquashade so far this year. No ice cover and an early bright spring are hard on clear water ponds.Just follow the instructions on the bottle and you should be able to clear it up.

I imagine chlorine bleach would also take care of it.

Bleach might kill it but if you don't darken the water it won't stay killed. Trust me. If let go it will totally cover the surface in a slimey 3 inch thick mass and eat up the oxygen and kill any fish that are there.

Rye is a good filler, and if lucky get some seed on ground when you feed it. Going for $50 a bale around here for 5x5's.

A shot from the mailbox, the cleared land was all mesquite a short time ago. I finally picked up a subsoiler from TSC. Made 2 passes and stopped, I am going to have to wait till we get some rain.
Right now the plans are to plant sunflowers in that patch come spring. This has been horse pasture for the last 20yrs. I know that I will have to break it up. My plan is to first get the subsoiler going, then run the disc turning plow. I am hoping that the turning plow will cut and bring the mesquite roots up.

Did a little digging around the pond. The drought is making it easy to make a bigger pond. I still have to put a slope on the ledges. But this is just the first stage let me know what you think and suggestions are welcome.

Mozambique Tilapia will eat it and are sold throughout texas...put them in in may or when the water will stay above 60 degrees consistantly...the will eat the algae and are really good eating...will be eating size by aug or sept...they will die when the water gets below about 55 degrees so probably won't have an over crowding problem...cost about ten dollars a pound for fingerlings...recommend 2 -3 pounds for that size pond...

Rich

Ps...go to a forum called Pondboss.com great source of information on management of ponds...
