A couple 4300 questions.

I have a couple questions about my new to me 4300 that I figured I'd ask in one thread.

The first one is about the battery, the PO put a new battery in it not long ago but the battery is to big and isn't letting the grille attatch right so I was wanting to get the right battery for it, or at least correct size. What size am I looking for? I did some searching but didn't come up with much, a couple places have it listed as a U1 group battery but that looks like a regular lawn tractor battery.

Second question is, I have a friend with a newer 3320 with ag tires, his rims are reversable to give it a wider stance. I have R4's on my tractor and was wondering if my rims were reversable also, I think they are but it doesn't look like they'd be wider if reversed.

Sorry, don't know the battery size.
The R4 rims are reversable, but you don't gain much width - IIRC: about 1 1/2".

Stop at your Deere dealer and get a battery the right size. There is very little extra room in the 4300, and one needs to be careful to get the battery either sealed or with the off-gassing tube to protect the oil cooler that sits in front of the radiator and VERY close to the battery. I get about 4-5 years out of a battery (now on my 3rd one) in my 4300.

I had to jump start my neighbor's 2305 and I'm reasonably sure his was a "group 27"/ 500CCA; I wouldn't think your battery should be any smaller in size or capability

Agree with beenthere: stop at your Deere dealer and get a battery the right size. On my second battery since 1999.

My first battery leaked and made a mess which I've cleaned up over time (although I have a bungee cord holding it tight).

I agree with you & Beenthere on asking the dealer!

My first battery started leaking too... Lucky I found it in time when I was doing service on my tractor, But I still had to clean up the metal where it sits, and repaint it!... I'm on my 2ND battery since 2001!

On reversing the rims:

I have my rears and fronts in the wide position on my 4300!... You don't gain much on the rears, But the fronts sure are wider now!!!

Thanks for all the replies, after some research it turns out that exide makes Deere batteries but I'm not having any luck with their cross referencing system to find the right part number, but incase anyone is searching and comes across this thread, the JD part number is for the battery TY26498 which is a group 22NF battery (which will be the correct size) incase anyone wants to try and get one a a parts store or somewhere else.

As far as the wheels, I'm not sure if mine are reversed already or not, but my valve stems are on the inside does that mean they are reversed?

Yeah, If the valve stems are on the inside... Then they're reversed!

Is the fronts like that too ??

Good to hear they are already reversed. The front one aren't since the valve stems are still on the outside, but I'll switch them when I have some time. How much width does it add on the front?
