There have been problems with Kioti IP gears and racks losing teeth. Here's a link to photos of a tear down of a failed IP:

This could be your problem, I think. If so, it is an obvious defect in materials, IMO. One poster reported he rotated the broken injector gear 180 degrees so the broken tooth doesn't engage the rack and all worked OK then. Of course, if the rack is missing teeth, that won't work.

thanks...the partial tooth I found is indeed just like the gear shown in the link you provided. The porosity of the part is a dead giveaway. Michigan Iron believes its the fuel injector pump as does Rick Wallace's mechanic (who graciously spent 1/2 hour on the phone with me to debug real-time).

This really sucks - 2 pump failures about 300 hours apart for the exact same reason. I hope Kioti will offer a free 2nd pump (as they did the first) since it's pretty obvious these are manufacturing defects. Anybody know when the first round of pump manufacturing defects were found and design changes made?

FYI - I don't store any fuel, its all purchased at either a local Texaco or Shell station on an as needed basis 10 gallons at a time.

I don't know if the OP is still under warranty, but I doubt it because of his statement about '3 years ago...' having replaced the IP.
So note the above link also refers to the 5 year warranty the feds impose on any fuel related components used in your tractor. This may be of relevance to your situation, regardless of the particular part(s) that turn out to be defective.

thanks...does the 5 year warranty also cover replacement parts or only original equipment...my tractor was originally purchased in 2006, just beyond 5 years ago.

Can't comment on replacement parts but I'd certainly investigate the law regarding that. I suspect it is limited to 5 years from date of original purchase- but don't quote me on that.... Look it up or find out from Kioti.
