Our Honda has a blade clutch so you can disenguage the blades without stopping the engine.

I have a '89 model Craftsman purchased new that has the blade clutch. Not a very common feature, it seems.

Yeah, before the Honda we had a Craftsmen, Murry, and another I can't remember. None of them had a blade clutch.

My dad's 74 and he had a reel mower as a kid. It's had to believe that after all these years the best thing to cut grass is still the good old reel mower. Now days it cost 1000's and comes with a seat. I did see a push one at Lowes, about $100-200. Was going to buy it as a punishment tool for the daughters till I saw the price tag.

Indeed, I too thought the OP was talking about a reel push mower! I have 2 "push" mowers, both gas, and use them to cut about 1.5 acres! At 68 I have the strength and stamina of a 25 year old, and I attribute that level of fitness to pushing those mowers and other similar activities. The perceived necessity of having a ride on mower is a big part of America's obesity problem.

For me, I really miss those chrome plated, generously padded handles that were easy to grip and didn't make my hands ache.

I miss the good old days, the engine would continue to run when you released the handle. Still remember the time I tried to unclog using a screw driver with the engine running. It cut the screw driver in half! LOL..yes the good old days when the safety police didn't exist!

This feature is available on most of the commercial series mowers.

Mom loves to do her own yard work... she did get a power mower from a neighbor but had a hard time starting it and restarting after each catcher of grass.

I went to the Mower Shop to see what they had available... the owner showed me a Honda Commercial with Aluminum Deck and Blade Clutch... so only the blade stops when the handle is released and not the motor.

Mom is 78 and has been using this mower for 8 years and loves it... friends said if I was any kind of son I would do it for her it pay for a gardener???

They don't understand that Mom was raised on a farm and ENJOYS doing things herself...

When I need to keep the engine on a pusher running to do a carb adjustment I use a large spring clamp to keep the safety control held down. For permanent hold down one can use a large nylon cable tie.
