Our Honda has a blade clutch so you can disenguage the blades without stopping the engine.
I have a '89 model Craftsman purchased new that has the blade clutch. Not a very common feature, it seems.

Indeed, I too thought the OP was talking about a reel push mower! I have 2 "push" mowers, both gas, and use them to cut about 1.5 acres! At 68 I have the strength and stamina of a 25 year old, and I attribute that level of fitness to pushing those mowers and other similar activities. The perceived necessity of having a ride on mower is a big part of America's obesity problem.
For me, I really miss those chrome plated, generously padded handles that were easy to grip and didn't make my hands ache.
I miss the good old days, the engine would continue to run when you released the handle. Still remember the time I tried to unclog using a screw driver with the engine running. It cut the screw driver in half! LOL..yes the good old days when the safety police didn't exist! :laughing:
