What feature do you miss most about older push mowers?

Well I've never had an older push mower, so to quote the cliché, you can't miss what you never had, but it doesn't stop me being envious of the older mowers with no Dead Man's Handle.

I hate having to either shut the motor off, or pull a muscle in my back trying to keep one hand on the lever and the other bending down to pick up a rock from the lawn.

Tie the control handle down with black plastic tape or a cable tie or use a spring clamp.

I don't want to use a cable tie or tape because I'd need to renew it every time I shut the mower off.

Spring clamp then....or use a short section of #14 single strand electrical wire wrapped around the handle. Jeeze, a cable tie or two a day is going to be too expensive? You Scots are so penny pinching.

Like a few others, the first thing that came to mind when I saw the title was a reel mower. To answer the question in the title, I miss the quality of cut a reel mowers gives.

Living out in the cuntry with a large lawn, a small reel mower just isn't in the book.

Grew up in So Cal in the 50's and all you saw there were reel mowers. The pro's used Mclane forward throw reel mowers. The design hasn't changed much in last 50-60 yrs. First rotary mower I saw was while on vacation in the mid-West. Had a Mclane forward throw mower some yrs back but way too much yard for a 20" mower.

When I firstr got married, I bought a push reel mower but being the lazy guy I am, I soon added an electric moter to it. Worked great, with the addition of a push button mounted on the handle, the setup worked like a charm. Just needed to get a mow pattern worked out so you didn't get the cord under foot. Used that mower for quite a few yrs.

Well no wonder you don't post "Show off" pictures like I do.
Mystery solved!

What I lack in money I more than make up for in post count however
