Anyone else run into this problem ? I have a 2011 kubota L-5740 hstc-3,
decided to change oil and filter for first time, went to dealer and told
them I wanted oil & filter and ask them how much oil I needed for this
tractor . They looked it up on computer and said 9.9 qts. I looked in my manual
when I got home and it also said 9.9 qts. I put 9.9 qts. in tractor and the stick
showed at least 1" above full mark. I had to drain almost 2 qts. out before
it checked to the full mark. Ask dealer about this and they said there were
two different oil pans on these tractors. Their mechanic said this 9.9 qts. was
if engine was completely DRY, other wise there would be a quart & one half
too 2 quarts trapped up in engine. Now when you change oil I thought you
were supposed to let it DRAIN completely. I had never heard of this before !!
Why would Kubota not mention this in manual ? How about all the other
fluid levels ? Can you depend on them or not ?

Got your PM but I assumed you meant Owning/Operating in the Kubota section of the site

When I did mine this past winter I only put in around 8 liters. I don't remember what the manual said it took but it was more. The manual is only a rough amount based on a completely dry engine as in brand new with never any oil in it.
I usually put in 3/4 the amount the manual calls for then keep checking it as I add to the proper amount. It's the safest and easiest way to do it.

I always prime my oil filter first as well. Yes I know it's on it's side but fill it half way with oil, let it settle for a few minutes then screw it on the engine. Your motor will love you for it.

I am guessing he only pulled the one drain plug if there were 2 quarts extra.. that is about right for what is in the other pan.

When I read his post I took it that when he said he looked in his manual he also checked to see how to actually change the oil

Well hard to say for sure, but the 2 quarts sounds like a lot to be just what is left in the galleys. I wasn't there, but that is what it sounds like to me.
Of course your method of the 3/4 fill and keep checking is prudent for any circumstance.

I'd think the guy would have to see the two drain plugs unless he's blind in one eye and can't see out of the other
It will be interesting to hear if he drained the two and your right. It would be the two quart difference if he didn't.

Been more than one on here that only pulled one plug.

After reading the manual
Hey, if people can't see a 75 foot long semi, barreling down on them at 65 MPH, and pull out in front of it............anything is possible:cool:
