Im having my dealer do a full service of my machine when it hits 100 hours. My machine calls for first break in service at 200 hours but im having it done at 100 hours at dealer recomendation and im having them do it. All fluids changed. I was wondering if all dealers send in oil for analysis for warranty purposes. Better to catch a problem sooner than later. I will request it anyhow. I know at work when we send in caterpillar machines, cat does this mandatory. Thanks in advance

Ha,
my dealer gave me the oil and the filter...
While it's routine to get an analysis for an airplane, I have never done it for a truck or a tractor. no harm in doing it though.

Hmm... Interesting. My dealer told me to work the heck out of the 4024T PowerTech engine and then between 50 to 60 hours change the break in oil and filter with new oil and a filter; no mention about an oil analysis. My uncle has the same 3TNV84 Yanmar engine in his 3520 as you and did the same thing at 50 hours; never had any issues. Our dealer never said anything about oil analysis as they have had little problems with both types of engines.

If the dealer is doing this for free, that is great. Also, I can see if you are running the engine 8 to 12 hours at day, hard, it might be worth it. However, if you are running the engine periodically, having no engine issues and the cost is high for the oil analysis, am not sure it is worth it. Nonetheless, it is your tractor and your money, so do whatever feels most comfortable for you.

I am on my seventh compact tractor and never had an oil analysis done. I always had changed the oil at the regular intervals and the engines always ran fine.

Seems like a lifetime ago...but it was about 40 years ago now. I worked as a sales manager for a testing laboratory that did spectographic oil analysis. It was a very cutting edge technology back then. Much the same program that CAT offered. I sold to allot of fleet and road machinery accounts and aircraft.

We found our share of iminant problems too. Especially problems with bearings and filters. Pretty interesting....especially if you have trends established as part of a maintenance program. But, I have never had oil analysis done on any of the vehicles I own....or felt the need to spend the money. Under normal service todays engines are pretty reliable if you maintain em right and dont abuse em.

I bet all that oil testing I saved would buy me a new tractor. ;)

sorry for the confusion if so. My dealer made no mention of oil analysis. I was gonna request for one but may hold off until closer to warranty expiration for peice of mind

You may want to establish a baseline for that engine with an analysis.

I'm thinking it is not necessary, nor would it be cost effective.
It won't be free, unless the cost is hidden in some where. Then it will only "look" free.

And therefore, glad my dealer doesn't do it and hide that cost on me.

(Come to think of it, my dealer has never seen a Deere of mine in his shop). :)

I was wondering if all dealers send in oil for analysis....

Well, you don't really say, but there is engine oil and hydraulic oil. Analysis
of the latter oil would be much more interesting and cost effective for
your tractor, esp if you have an HST. That stuff is often more than $10
per gallon and you need 7-10 gallons for many CUTs. At a typical
change interval of 400h, I know it is not done often, but extending
that interval could be justified, depending on the analysis.

This has been discussed on TBN before, but I have yet to see the results
of a hyd oil analysis posted.

My personal opinion is that the dealers could care less. If anything goes wrong during the warranty period, it's not out of their hide - John Deere foots the repair bill. After the warranty period, you foot the bill. Bottom line is almost certainly; if you want an oil analysis, be prepared to pay for it.
