Howdy all!

I finally picked up my '63 Massey-Ferguson 65D after I purchased it from it's 2nd owner in January. After a pretty long haul getting it back to Kansas from Minnesota, I've run it a few times and a friend of mine who's a full-time farmer and I have been going over it to fix some of the small stuff that has been plagueing it. So far, I love it! My primary use for it at first will be mowing, moving dirt/gravel, and stuff like that as I start to develop my acreage into the "homestead" I've waited my whole life to build.

About me: I'm a former Army Aviator who has transitioned to the civilian sector. My wife and I bought some acreage and are currently building a house out there. I've driven Deere, Case, IH, and Kubotas in my past (though it has been quite a while), so getting back on a tractor has been fun, but it really IS like riding a bike. Once you learn how to drive one, you can drive pretty much all of them.

I look forward to learning as much as I can!

hi tim, glad to see another person with the mf65, mines a mk11, that i got of a neighbor who had it for 10 years and paid people to drive it, so i have been doing bits to get it up to scratch again. mines manual steer, i get to feel the muscles that haven't been used in a long time, trust me i cant see them but i can feel them haha
the worst thing so far has been trying to find a new shaft for the front pedestal,
the 2nd hand ones i have located have been very worn.

i find mine very basic, but it surprises me with what it can get done

basic usually equates to robust. robust is good... my old fords are in the same category. easy to use, easy to work on.. can do lots of work!

I have a MF165, which I believe is similar.
My hydraulic system works great right now, but the dip stick on the right side indicates it's empty.
The owner's manual I bought says "Fill transmission through hole in top of transmission case." But I don't see any such hole!
Fig.17 is the "hydraulic lift cover" immediately above the dip stick. I loosened the rectangular plate on it, and hydraulic fluid started squirting out so I tightened it again. I removed a screw-in plug with wrench flats (2 flats not a hex top) and it was full. Since these items are way higher than the dip stick I expected to have a deep empty hold, but apparently the hydraulic lift cover is the pump system and has pressure in it.
Does anyone know where to add the hydraulic fluid?

I got an answer to my question from Early Equipment Company in Harrisonburg VA.
There is a screw-in plug to the left of the two gear shift levers, that is the place for hydraulic fluid that also lubricates the gears. It looks like a place for a third shift lever that was not installed. The user manual should have been clearer on this. When I removed this plug and put a gallon of hydraulic fluid in the hole, sure enough it now reads the correct level on the dip stick!
