Most I've seen are remote transmitting adapters and when the reader sends out a wake up it transmits back the meter number and reading.

I don't know much about this water meter myself, but I think it's just as you said.

Around me, they only read the meter once every 3 or 4 months. The in-between readings are estimates based on past usage. So it is possible that they didnt actually read the meter yet. Rather they are just estimating it and in the month that they "actually" read it, the bill will be adjusted accordingly.

But 100gal/day is about the norm for a family of 3 or 4. Thats 3000 gal/month, which is usually what my bill is here...2800-3600 normally for usage.

For retired folk it is probabally higher too because of being home all the time.

I may have been a little off on my number. Most of what I read says 50-100 gallons per person per month. So I guess a family of 3 is "average" of 4500-9000/month:confused2:

WE (family of 3) average in the 3000 gal range. But we dont water anything or wash cars and stuff.

Last bill showed an average of 95 gallons a day, so that was why I asked them to go over and check the meter in the first place. This bill is for the last 3 month window and shows even higher usage average.

Haven't heard back from the neighbor, so I'll give him a call this evening.

Possible, but since I come and go to Miami randomly, not likely. The neighbor who is checking to see if it is still off and the meter reading will call to tell me when anyone goes in the yard or around the house (including my son). The only place there is a water outlet on that side of the house has the handle removed.

Even so, I have a spare woods camera I think I'm gonna set up in a shed I have that will allow me to cover that outlet. I may also mention it to the neighbor on that side (where there is a water faucet) and tell him I have a watch order on the house (I do from two kids getting seen in my back yard and caught by the police). Ya just never know in Miami

So how could there have been any water used when it was shut off ???????
