Land Plane (Frontier 1207) and clamshell bucket are proving very useful so far. I'm still figuring out how to best use them, but so far so good. I can't wait to get the Land Plane up on to a road that I purchased it for - it did a great job on my gravel driveway here. The road will likely prove a challenge, but a fun one.

Thanks go all here who helped me figure what to get!

Looks great!

Interesting spot where they installed the 4th and 5th switches. Might be alright but if you use the 3ph lever often they may get in your way. I mention this because once and a while I hit the 3rd function switch (placed where yours is) and that sits a lot flatter than the 4th and 5th. At any rate, easy enough to switch if need be. :)

I think the idea is your hand can easily rest there and work the switches as needed.

Right now the joystick works the top and tilt, and those two switches are idle (I wanted 1 circuit for my landscape rake / back blade to set up a hydraulic offset /angle, but they come in pairs). I'm already wondering if I shouldn't swap the top and tilt function over to them instead and leave the angling to the joystick.

oh ya, i forget. are the rear cab lights standard or optional? or are you adding more than the usual 4 lights?...wait, isnt a horn standard???. i thought that was standard on all larger tractors?

defiantly needed on a cab tractor. How else can you get the wife's attention when shes walking in front of me while im working. I actually removed the horn that came standard on my tractor and replaced it with a MUCH louder electric horn. the one that came with it sounded like a 1960's era VW bug. I mean...really. A BUG

A 4000 series tractor isn't a large tractor. It may have at max 66 HP on the 4720, it is considered a compact utility tractor. The HP is a lot for a tractor its size but it doesn't have the weight and size of the regular utility tractors.

I went back to try and find the post you quoted... and can't? Maybe I missed it.

Rear lights were an option, as was horn and rear wiper.

The 4000 twenty series is a large compact, a little smaller than the smallest utility tractors (5000 series). Lots of options you can add on.

It is pretty tiny compared to what my dealer is used to selling.

Maybe I'm missing the point? Tractors are used for different things, and just because it is larger, doesn't always mean better. I have a tractor similar size to your 5203 (5410), but I also have a tractor that's the same as couchsachraga's (110) and had a couple smaller than it. Each is used for something different and really good at what they do. I wouldn't be complaining if I had a 4520 cab!!

Congrats on the new machine! Where are the pictures since it arrived home?:licking:

I'm not saying that bigger is better. We have an old bank barn that the 970 moved where the 5203 can't. I understand what your saying and your absolutely right. What I was implying is that the compact utility tractors from John Deere are more maneuverable and are smaller in size than the utility tractors.

Images soon (too much work getting done ;) ).

For the $$ I think the 5000 series is actually a better deal (more tractor for the $), but for woods work on my trails and the maneuverability the 4000 series is a great fit. I considered the 3000 series as well but felt the added capacity / ability of the 4000 twenty series was worth it for me... and so far that has proved to be the case.

The economy versions of the 5000's are a great deal in my opinion. Best bang for your buck in the Deere lineup in terms of raw power. But I'd way rather operate a 4x20 everyday than a 5055D if you know what I'm saying. The HST and a much more maneuverable tractor. I've had my 110 and 5410 hanging out at the farm together these last couple weeks and I've jumped in the 110 every time I wanted to do something as it's just a more comfortable machine to drive, but half the horsepower.

A few images from delivery day. I need to take a few of the "mess" so far too, though the real work begins when it is 45 min north of here... this is just a side project really.
