If i take the arm lift lever to high the engine will stall..at the moment i have to stop maybe an inch or more before the top of the quadrant to stop it stalling..anyone out there with ideas as to what is causing this to happen?

I just got a mahindra (my first tractor). So, I've been reading the manual. It mentions adjusting top lift height screw (max height for lever) so as to still allow "play" in the hitch arms.

Meaning (I think) that u should still be able to lift the hitch arms a little, by hand, after the lift lever is in full up position. The japanglish manual says that the pump will burn out if there is no "play."

This may have nothing to do with your problem, but if it does, the engine may be shutting down to save u from burning out the pump.

Has it done this since new? Or just started recently?

Don't really know when it started ,i have just bought the tractor and have only really used the loader ..Was just 'checking the lift out and found this happening. As far as i know the tractor had done little work other than running a Pump off the pto.

Mine is a 304, and it does not do that.

My best guess is that your feedback linkage inside the lift box is misadjusted somehow. My manual tells how to adjust, do you have a manual that tells too?

No i don't have a manual as yet ..all the ones i've managed to check out online the diagrams haven't been that easy to read

Well, if could be that:
using "relativity", maybe you can adjust the part that your control levers run in so that the control lever does not go as far up. What I'm saying sounds like I'm being silly, but it could work maybe.

That's what I think it says in the mahindra manual... make sure the pto lift lever doesn't allow the hitch to go so high, that any further "play" is gone. The hitch still needs to freely move upward a little, after fully raised with lever.

Damage to the pump will result if lifted too high.

Thanks guys , that was going to be my next 'mission' to make a stop so it limited the lever travel ..apart from that issue it has been 'a' okay!
