John Deere
I asked a JD dealer for a quote on a 2520 with FEL. This is my first tractor for my 7 acre place. The quote:

1 L2800 HST WITH 7.2-16 FRONT TIRES,11.2-24 R1 REAR TIRES AND LA524 FL LOADER WITH 60" BUCKET $17,900 plus tax.
Is this a fair price?

He also quoted me:
1 RC200-72P 72" ROTARY MOWER W/SHEAR PIN
$2,600.00
PLUS SALES TAX

1 MODEL GB60 6' BLADE
$1,106.10
PLUS SALES TAX

Well, since we are talking about a tractor that is now discontinued, with a front end loader that doesn't match what is made for the machine and what appears to be above list price for the original machine and list for the attachments. I'd say he can do better:thumbsup: What's your take Murph?

Martian, I know jack about Deere's but my two cents would be to check out what else is out there..
We could always take your new welder to it and learn some new stuff..

Thanks guys for your thoughts. Here's what I would like to purchase, but still waiting for a quote from JD. (The Bota guy was a lot quicker with his quote).

JD 2520 with 200CX loader.

Not sure if I should get the drive over deck or rear rotary cutter.

I have about 7 acres, but subtracting the house and pond, only about 4.5 acres to mow.

Am I selecting the right type of tractor for this? I also plan on some gravel road work and cleaning up of some trees on property. I looked at 1026R, but not sure if I may regret not paying a bit more for a larger machine. Please help, as I am new to this.

I think, talking Deere, your on the right track. The 2520 is a nice sized machine and the 'sweet spot' in the 2x20 series in terms of power per dollar.

A mid mount mower (MMM) with drive over deck has a much different purpose than a rotary cutter though. If you mean for something to mow the lawn, you would want a rear finish mower (RFM) where mowing brush, fields and small foliage, you would want a rotary cutter. The rotary cutter wouldn't leave a very pretty finish on a well groomed lawn, though.

I am confused on the L2800 quote, though. Is that for a new tractor? They haven't made the L2800 in over 2 years. I believe you would be looking at a B2520 Kubota. Should be relatively similar in price depending on how much each dealer is willing to bargain.

Thanks Martian. I will be mowing pasture grass, so not sure what I need.

The Kubota salesman told me that the L2800 is what would work best and gave me a brochure. The quote apparently is for a new one, since that is what I'm looking to purchase.

The JD salesman had a 2520 with 200CX fel for about $17,900 (plus tax). I believe list price was about $19,000. I asked for a price with the fel and a pull-type mower (not sure if it's going to be rotary or RFM). What do you think about the price so far? Does JD have any sales going on for attachments, etc?
