Before I bought my tractor, a friend let me use his host for a month or so to use for all the stuff I had going on at my new place. I went to a bunch of dealers and drove a lot of tractors. I ended up with a gst. Kinda a split between a gear and hst. Glad I did. Hst was very nice, but experienced some slippage doing different tasks. I also like the throttle control of the foot pedal vs having just the hand one(gst has both).

Oh but my Massey is hydro and you use the foot for the throttle or the hand throttle

There aren't no hills in diamond haha. Yes on the braking factor. I don't think I ever hit the brake except to park it

That's true, and sometimes I wish I still lived closer! I'm a little bit closer to granby than diamond but I try not to tell anyone ;)

Aww. You get out east of Grandby and it flattens out a little out there. I think you told me that once but I have a hard time remembering my name sometimes

You ol' ladies and your HST tractors... just because I have "clutch leg" and am always going either too fast or too slow doesn't matter, does it?

I like the efficiency of the gear tractor in that it's not revving all the time, it comes back to idle between times. It bothers me to have an engine revving and not working, plus I gain a few more PTO hp with the gear tranny.

Someday I'll probably have to bite the bullet and go hydro, although a clutch-less shuttle appeals to me too.

Sean if you ever get down to Branson, (and I know it is a very long way) Please come by for a visit, I would love to meet you, and I would love for you to operate my Hydro tractor. I keep a gravel pile all the time, and if I could get you on it for an hour, I am betting with all my heart, you would love it too. The offer is for real, PM me if you ever have the opportunity to come this way.

Thanks for the invite, James. I'll have to check with the missus if I'm allowed back in the States yet, let alone Missouri. The trouble you'd have is getting me off it, not on..

Well the offer is good. Lots of people, (some years I think about 1.5 million.) do come here to do the country music thing or enjoy the lakes and other shows. I bet you would have fun here.. and while you can't take my tractor home, you sure as heck can play with all you want while you are here.

Himmm, so maybe the either going to fast or too slow is not just a tractor issue.. Just sayin'

i dont have any probs running the hst tractor.for what i do its the same as the gear tractor.ive spent close to 4 or 5hrs shredding in low.an it does everything i ask of it.an it even worked good in 4wd drive pulling a truck an gooseneck trailer out of a hole.

Those are exactly the reasons I like my L4200's GST tranny, except I don't have clutch leg, since I don't have to push the clutch unless I really want to (still can't figure out why that pedal is there).

OTOH, I have a gear lawn tractor, and I hate the transmission. I do a LOT of back n' forth while mowing, and gear is a lousy choice. It probably adds 1/3 to the time required to mow. I'm moving to an HST as soon as I find a good one (I only do vintage mowers).
