Latest project was welding on receiver tubes to the top of my FEL, primarily for lifting things but I also made a scaffolding I can work off of. I just started putting up a building for my equipment, I plan to use this a lot.

Looks good, and a lot safer than just working out of the bucket.

I saw something similar to that a guy made. It had the work platform on top with a shelf made under it that had a generator and mig welder on it. He used it putting up his metal buildings. It was made to be used with pallet forks though.

Wish I had pallet forks, biggest mistake I made was not getting quick attach stuff when I bought the tractor so I could change between FEL and forks. I put these tubes on primarily to lift things with chains/slings. I have one long piece of tube that I'm going to use to lift my trusses on the walls.

When I looked at the pics, first thing I thought of was "Cool, new idea for forks"... Mod some up that'll fit your receivers.
Also thought square tubing to fit the receivers with chain hooks on welded on top and xyz on bottom. Flip as needed.

I like the idea, nice job

You may want to add rear ballast to stabilize the tractor. I had a similar setup made out of steel with holes for forks. Had two people on it (one was me), with equipment doing soffits on my 14' garage walls. Front end was on unlevel ground. Whole thing pivoted on the front axle tipping everything and us off (8' drop). We both had sore ankles for a week. Didn't break anything ('cept a hammer handle...).

Just be careful and use plenty of rear ballast.

You can't see it in the photo but I always have rear ballast on. I've done the front wheel circus dog walk a few times, I don't plan to repeat.

Tnx, I actually made up a bunch of square tubing with different stuff on the ends. The tubes in this picture are aluminum to save weight, the other ones are steel and I have all kinds of doo-dads attached to them for lifting, including eyebolts, shackles, etc.

Hi all

A scaffold on the FEL looks really useful, I could have done with one a few times. But how safe is this? My tractor manuals and lots of reading tells me that one should never carry people or ride in the FEL, this referers to when the tractor is moving, but I'd assume that the same would apply.

If the tractor is off then any movement of the joystick will cause the pressure to be released and the FEL to crash down so I presume the tractor has to be idling? Even then does the FEL/scaffold stay up in the air? does it slowly lower as pressure leaks out?

You might want to think about adding pinned on supports to 2 x 2 tubing and triangulate them to the bottom of the bucket. Just to spread the working load. I like the 2" receiver idea. If I ever cut all the stuff I welded to the top of my bucket I might do the same thing

Yes I've seen that done with lifting fixtures, it works well. I plan to raise my trusses with a steel tube in the receiver tube, I might add your suggestion for that since it's cantilevered out so far.
