What would be the advantage of having a 400 amp service?

Two hundred amps would be a little small for an all electric house of my size with a large garage/machine shop. So I went to 400. It is what it is.

I have one and it works good. It's at a smaller gate house. I do not need to power lots here, well, hot water, each by itself. You simply monitor your own usage and breaker panel.


30amp connection installed in about 10 minutes.

For a larger connection, I have a PSP Products Transconnect TC-200M26W (central farm distribution point) Tiger Power PTO 30kw feeds large house, well, barn, machine sheds, shop.


All approved and installed by local utility (Rappahanock Electric Coop) Northern Virginia

and for a distant well, you can build it with a meter combo unit with a built in interlock.

This is the the best I've seen. I'm saving up for it. $500.00 for the unit and $1000.00 labor for the installation.

Are you sure of the price? That seems like a heck of a deal.

Generlinks are pretty good. Price really isnt that bad considering how much a proper transfer switch costs and the time it takes to install. The Generlink is Plug and play.

Good idea but local electric utility refused to install it.

Good idea is highly debatable and I fully understand why your local utility refused to allow it to be installed. Stuff like this has been designed and promoted by people who will never ever have to put their life or limb on the line (literally) if these devices happen to fail. As a Lineman with 35 years of service I can tell you that I would never have trusted anything like these units to guarantee that there was zero possibility of a back feed situation.

No excuses for using double ended male cords into clothes dryer, electric stove or worse yet welder plugs.

How is a welder plug worse than a dryer or range plug

So, as I type, I've got cords running in through the sliding glass door from the generator to freezer, fridge's, etc.

Either way though, it is never a good idea to back-feed power into the house. Either use a transfer switch and/or plug the appliances DIRECTLY into the generator. You should never use a double male plug and backfeed. And IF you do, kill your main breaker. I have heard numerous stories of fried generators from people who are backfeeding when either the linmen ground the line and/or power comes back on. And then those people call and complain to their power company like it is their fault the genny is fried:confused2:
