With 3 acres i really dont mind being fenced it, there really is not a whole lot to see other than some more grass and i can still see all the trees. So it works for me, and now we dont have to keep our dogs locked up in the back yard. They can rome around where ever they want and not get away. And our coatimundi can be outside sometimes now also

How about a picture of your coat i mundi (in this part of the world we call them "Chulos")
I had 1 for a pet when I was in the 7th grade. At first gentle as a puppy. Took him to school and let other kids play with him.
As he got older he got meaner & meaner. Chewed about 3" of his tail off.
Only my mother could feed him and after a while even she couldn't feed him.
Took him to the mountains and let him go.

The lady that ran the ranch I worked and I caught 2 that day. She kept 1, I don't remember how it turned out. It was her second 1. The first one was a hoot, almost monkey like. Try to walk the cloths line and swing off it. Played with himself in the mirror.

But he discovered the chickens and eggs. Soon after that he was deported.

If you raise them from a baby they seem to stay freindly unless they are mistreated. I would say i have noticed the oposite they seem to get nicer as they are older

Thanks for the pic's.
Cute little critter. They are fun and mischievous.
Just keep in mind that it is a wild critter and can revert to its wild ways at some point in time.

"As for the pros of a straw house, all you can say is that they are more energy efficient. That's great for the part of the wall without a window, but the R rating of the windoe negates all energy ratings of the walls. Doesnt matter if you have a R 60 wall, putting a R 4 double pain, super energy efficient window in the wall means that's all your walls are good for. Air movement and sealing is much more important then how thick the walls are. The straw is just a false feel good justification"

If this is so, then why waste money insulating any house? I'm asking from ignorance, not being a smart *****.

kidr, don't waste your time, because that was a completely bogus argument that doesn't even make any sense. The net R value of any exterior wall is going to be somewhat of an average of the overall element's respective performance. Saying that the whole wall will perform at the R value of a minority area (the windows) is pretty dumb. I think whoever posted that does not understand the calculation of R-value, because they conflated their argument with air movement. A properly installed window is air tight, regardless of what type of framing it is installed in.

Furthermore, straw bale houses actually perform very, very well. Having big, thick, heavy walls serve to function as a thermal mass. So the walls get cool overnight, and stay cool well into the day. And in the winter, the sun helps heat things up by day, and they stay warmer into the night. When you include this very relevant situation into your thermal analysis, the effective R-value of a straw bale wall is actually very high. Blows the doors off any 16"o.c. standard framing or metal-structural panels, that's for sure.

Anyway, that was a sidebar, the thread is about a fence, which looks pretty nice.

It's probably a type of stucco rather then "mud".
Straw bales houses have a great reputation for excellent insulation and are relatively easy to build (so I have read). Straw is a relatively inexpensive building material.
"Ghetto" is probably not an accurate description of the people building their own home.

Here's a bit more about straw houses:

Well said Roy.

Jokergerm,
The fence looks great. Could you provide some info regarding its construction? Type of wood, posts, materials, effort expended, etc. and what influenced your design and materials decisions?
Regards,
Obed

Thanks for posting pic's of your Coati. Your significant other is very photogenic. :)

I hope you can keep it tame and docile. I guess just like us humans, they can become crotchety with age...
