Best diesel 5 gal fuel can?

My favorites are made by Chilton, they have the fixed yellow spout with the snap-on lid retained by a plastic strap, and a copper screen in the neck. I have hoarded them. I get them from the trunks of wrecks at the junkyard. The new spill-proof EPA spouts just make me spill gas. Stupid government types making a good simple thing complicated. I have about 20-30 old style gas cans of various types in the garage.

I have a bunch of the Wedcos with the bellows-style spout, but they typically crack and split at the folds of the spout. Good cans, lousy spouts. I need to find a sealed lid that closes them off to use with a funnel.

My kerosene cans are the old 5-gallon round jug style. Look like the metal ones with the folding handle, but plastic. No spout, just a threaded bung. I doubt those are legal anymore either.

For what it is worth....I use these throw-away liquid laundry detergent containers to fill my small stuff (chainsaw, weedeater etc). The valve offers excellent control for the process. The plastics used appear to be holding up to gasoline....so far anyway. :thumbsup:

In my experience the green NATO fuel cans are the best out there. They are lined steel and last forever. I was fortunate enough to buy ten for ten dollars a piece 15 years ago. Here is a link to one supplier. I would say one could look around and get a better deal.

I read some of the back pages. The sportsman's guide is a much better deal. I like the flexible spout made of galvanized steel. The cans are pricey but worth it. They will last a lifetime with a little care.

Jegs racing has these square jugs in 2.5, 5 and 15 gallon. Then don't come with a spout, but the large threaded cap has a 1/2" npt plug so you can add a ball valve, hose, etc or buy their hose assy. They also have the old style flip up vent... They also sell the vents separately. I've retro fitted all my newer cans with these vent caps. I have a couple red, blue and yellow. They are heavy duty hard thick plastic and MADE IN THE GOOD Ole USA
