Penn State Sanctions resulting from the Sandusky scandal

/ Penn State Sanctions resulting from the Sandusky scandal #61
To refer to these little boys --- children --- who were sexually abused in the worst way by a grown man who was a revered coach on the beloved and idolized Penn State football team (and in the football team locker room and shower) as "victims" and to question in any way their motives is cruel and insensitive beyond my comphrehension. These children are VICTIMS in the worst way possible.

Mo....Did you see the question mark on my post...I don't know the answer , I was just throwing it out to see what others thought...I agree, if indeed the grown men were harmed, raped or abused as little boys or at any time , that is repulsive, evil and beyond explanation or excuse, however, people are people and not always honest....I know this ...had I been raped as a child , I would have immediately told my Dad....there is no question in my mind and trust me...he would have taken immediate action...

The University did not covere up the rapes. Individuals covered up the rapes and these are the people who should be punished. Players on today's PSU football team are in no way responsible for the actions of the people who did make the decisions years ago.

you people did not see the adds from the lawyers, I did with in 12 hours of the case breaking they were advising to see them if they had had any contact with sanduskey. If you look at who the report faulted it was the ones that were charged and a man in his grave unable to answer the charges. None of the live active board members. Now kids on their scholar ships are ruined not just foot ball but the marching band and cheer leaders, what about the current football players their future is now ruined. They are the victims.

Thanks lockhaven for that post. I agree 110% with you.

To imply that the University does not have any responsibility here because individuals perpetrated the crimes is beyond belief. There were senior members of the administration of the University that knew about this and did nothing. We are not talking about some janitor here, we are talking senior staff. As such they represented the University.

If the University is not responsible for the actions of those underneath it, then Penn State never won a game in its entire history, individuals won the games. As far as players that came to the school unknowingly, they should transfer to another school if they so choose. The penalty allows for that.

I don't have a dog in this fight, never been a Penn State fan or anti fan either....I'm SEC...that's pretty much it
I did not read past post 13 ( that ended it for me :m1helmet::irked:) so I apologize if someone already has this opinion:
I think that punishment is warranted, but I don't quite get the removing of scholarships or taking away victories.
Those victories belong to the students, they happened, they won. I don't see any reason to punish the football program or the student athletes. 60 million is a lot of money, a big fine. The "big ten" will take another 13 million
Jerry Sandusky is the real culprit. That's easy to forget with allegations such as the ones that are flying around now. He will get his, that's guaranteed (I hope).

This isn't over, there pieces missing, somethings not right, and I smell a rat....er uh another rat or rats.

The more I read about this the more questions I have. I would not pass judgement on Joe Paterno based on the content of the Freeh report. I can't help but think that since he is unable to defend himself he's (Joe Paterno) quickly becoming a Pariah.
Because this happened over a period of many years and some of the incidences so long ago, I expect things to be somewhat sketchy, but his is very convoluted
Joe Paterno was into his 70's when these atrocities occurred, I get the feeling he was out of it or definitely not at full capacity, and from what I read, he was on the block, so to speak because of the teams record.
He had everything, plenty of money, a very successful career......If you knew so much why would you keep quiet?
Jerry Sandusky left the team 12 years ago.

For this many people: Mcquery, Curley, Shultz, Spanier, the victims, their counselor, the janitor and the victims parents to know what Jerry Sandusky was up to....... I just can't believe it was allowed to continue relatively unabated for all those years.

Unless there is more than one pedophile........in a high placeThat might explain a lot. Perhaps that's why the cover up and Joe Pa was so quick to be labeled the facilitator.
What happened to the boy in the shower with Sandusky? I guess he was never questioned?

It's not over.....The U.S. Department of Education is doing an investigation for violations of the Clery act.

Sports in university should be for fun only.

Universities are for learning, its a crime that this much money is being wasted on sports.

Individuals that REPRESENTED the university.

So a handful of individuals within the university made a mistake, maybe a criminal violation, so a community and school should suffer?

Do you really believe that the current football team should be punished for other people's actions? REALLY?

How is it fair to punish the innocent?

With every verdict, someone is hurt. A murderer gets the death penalty, and a family looses him. He may be a father, a grandfather, a beloved son or brother; but do we feel sorrow for these people? No. Yes, it is a shame that some players will loose some wins in the record books, that some people might have a lesser reputation, but their small punishment must be endured for what has gone on around them. Those without dirty water have not and will not be fired and replaced. Should we feel sorry for the family of a murder victim like the Penn State staff/students? It isn't fair but it must be done to not allow something as horrible happen again.

I agree 1000%. Lesson learned here is be very careful who you put into top leadership posts. If those leaders make fatal errors the institution is liable and suffers the consequences. Leadership matters and that is why the top people make so much money. Leaders investigate issues and make sure the controls are in place to prevent serious issues. If a company goes bankrupt because its top people make mistakes, everyone is hurt - employees, shareholders, suppliers - even though they did nothing wrong. It's the way it works.

The real victims here are the children who were brutalized and who continued to be brutalized because Penn State leaders chose to ignore the issue. Suffer the consequences of chosing the wrong leadership.
