I hate the new DW nowadays!! I bought the low washer models thinking it will be great to put cookie sheets in there to wash, but let me tell you something. My back is no longer thanking me esp getting older. I usually make my kids do thee dishwasher now since the bottom basket is waaaay to low for a tall person like me. I liked the older ones since it was cheap and cleaned well. The cheap ones do not clean well. just like everyone says - you get wha tyou pay for- so pay up for a good one and you will not have griefs like us cheapskates learning the lesson the hard way. :duh:

I would check into repairing your old one. I helped my buddy Scott install anew Wirlpool from Lowes, It had poor mounting brackets, unit moved around when closing door. The control panel is on top of door, and is hidden under counter top. The first one did not work at all, its been, a year now and second one is ok.
It is very quiet.

I was looking at fridges a year or so back at Lowes. The GE/Whirlpool? and Samsung models look identical in the fridges with double fridge doors and a bottom freezer. The only difference was a few trim pieces. I have no idea about the compressor but the rest of the fridges were the same. I noticed the last time I was in there they had moved the models apart. For the exact same fridge, Samsung was $200-300 more then the GE or Whirlpool. I think it was a GE fridge but I can remember for sure.

There was a website out there that chronicled "who made what" when it came to appliances. There is a LOT of re-branding going on out there, at least on the average homeowner units. Also many of the "old time" brands have been bought and consolidated under another company and are just a "name" now, Maytag is one.

Thats why the decision of what to buy is such a hard one. You could want to avoid samsung and end up buying a samsung made "GE". Im pretty sure that's why im likely going to go with a brand like Miele who makes all their products in house, but you pay for that.

c'mon we need a link!!

I bought the online Consumer Reports a year or so back. On the CU website, they would tell you if an appliance was made by another brand. Not sure how extensiveness of their list. You could make some educated guesses when looking at the appliance specifications as well.

Not about the dishwasher perse, but about service instead. We bought a Samsung frontload washer from Lowes, with the extended warranty. 3 months in,it crapped out. Called Lowe's, they said their warranty didn't kick in until Samsungs 1 year expired. Samsung said ok, but we don't have any authorized shops in your area. They kicked us back to Lowe's. Thus began a year long saga, between us Lowe's,Samsung, and A&E Appliance.
Finally settled when Samsung's warranty expired and we browbeat Lowe's into a replacement.
My advice is to spend the extra 50/60 bucks and go to an appliance shop that services what they sell in house.
